I remember pulling up to the Luxury Mansion Loft by the Beach on Park Street in St Kilda West – you know, that quiet stretch just off Beaconsfield Parade where the tram lines hum past every few minutes. It’s tucked into this unassuming block, Unit 17 at number 11, and honestly, from the outside, it doesn’t scream “luxury” like some of those flashy high-rises in the CBD. But step inside, and whoa – it’s like you’ve wandered into some restored Victorian mansion that’s been tricked out for modern living. I mean, the high ceilings and those massive windows overlooking the bay had me stopping in my tracks, especially at sunset when the light pours in all golden and the air smells faintly of salt from Port Phillip. Check-in was a breeze; it’s one of those contactless setups with a code, which is perfect if you’re arriving late after a day exploring – no fussing with a front desk, though I did miss that personal welcome you get at bigger hotels. Parking’s street-only around here, and it can be a bit of a hunt during peak summer weekends when everyone’s flocking to the beach, but hey, that’s Melbourne for you – just circle once or twice and you’ll snag a spot.
What really sets this place apart, though – and I say this as someone who’s crashed in a fair few spots around St Kilda – is how it feels like a proper home away from home, not just a sterile room. The loft layout is genius: upstairs you’ve got this airy bedroom with plush linens that actually feel lived-in (none of that stiff hotel starch), and downstairs, the kitchen’s stocked with decent appliances – I whipped up a brekkie using stuff from the IGA on Fitzroy Street, which is a quick 10-minute stroll away. You can hear the faint crash of waves at night if you crack a window, and it’s surprisingly peaceful for being so close to the action; no blaring horns from Acland Street’s cafes or the weekend crowds at Luna Park, which is just a short walk east along the esplanade. Well, sort of peaceful – there was a bit of tram noise early mornings, but nothing earplugs couldn’t fix. I loved wandering out to Catani Gardens for a morning coffee; it’s right nearby, with those shady palms and joggers zipping by, and if you’re into it, the St Kilda penguins show up at the pier around dusk in the cooler months. The place is rated a solid 9.5 for a reason – it’s got that four-star polish without feeling over-the-top, like the spa-like bathroom with its rain shower that actually has good pressure (a rarity in some older builds around here).
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something more intimate than the big chains downtown, this loft is a gem – especially in spring when St Kilda West isn’t swamped with tourists yet, and you can snag quieter rates. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, but that’s minor compared to waking up to bay views and being steps from the sand. I’d book it again in a heartbeat for a relaxed vibe that lets you dip into the city’s energy without the chaos – you know, grab a flat white at one of those hidden spots on Barkly Street, then retreat here to unwind. Totally worth it for couples or small groups looking to feel like locals.
To book hotel in Melbourne for laneway art tours, travelers grab rooms early to pair coffee crawls with gallery nights in Fitzroy.

What Our Guests Say
Absolutely loved it, felt like we were really living the city life. Perfect location with two different tram routes right outside, and an easy ride into the City. A block from the beach/ pier. Restaurants and supermarket just there as well. Beautifuly decorated apartment with a lot of space, comfortable sofas and bed - a true home away from home. Thank you
What could be improved: Perfect
Clean & comfortable. Well located and furnished. Very comfortable and clean. Great location, very close to trams, beach, pubs & cafes. Free parking & dog friendly. Excellent communication with host.
Beautiful stay Location was perfect. Everything needed was on hand, and details were thought of. Easy to use TV, and all was explained. Comfy couch and bed. Offered to check in early (didn't need to but could have been really useful). Good communication. Very clean. Extra items in kitchen and bathroom for use.
What could be improved: No shelf in the shower for toilettries - for me with a terribly sore back, leaning down constantly was really uncomfortable. Would be great if an option could be found to get items off the floor and for guest's items too. All four pillows were the same (soft) - I feel variety would be good to allow personal preference as they really weren't comfy for me, but then I do have a bad back, so maybe just me.
Exceptional Great location, comfortable furnishings and good size for a longer stay. Great hosts, very accommodating and reasonable.
Slightly overrated. Location in St Kilda was great. Apartment was nicely decorated.
What could be improved: There was only one window and the apartment was really dark. Also the location in the building was poor and the entrance was unattractive. The was not any chance to sit by the entrance.
Exceptional The warm atmosphere
What could be improved: Nothing
Looked great in the photos, but the actual apartment was much lovelier than the photo’s suggested! So comfortable and beautifully decorated! Perfect location close to cafes and the St Kilda Baths.
What could be improved: Nothing
Exceptional Fantastic little getaway. Great location. Just beautiful!
Superb Location, clean, warm,
What could be improved: The stairs up to the bedroom are a bit hard to climb for the older people besides that everything else was excellent.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts who kept in touch to ensure all was well. Your property is just gorgeous, love the fire The property was cosy and well equipped. Extremely comfortable and clean. The location was amazing! Secure under cover parking was a huge bonus.
