Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to the Luxury 3-Storey Loft on Cumberland Street in Docklands – you know, that spot right where the waterfront starts to blend into the edgier side of Melbourne’s CBD. It’s tucked away just off Footscray Road, so you’re close enough to hop on a tram to the city center without dealing with the chaos of Collins Street traffic. Honestly, the free parking on premises was a lifesaver; I mean, finding a spot in Docklands during peak hours can be a nightmare, especially if you’re coming from the airport via the Tullamarine Freeway. I arrived around dusk, and the check-in was super straightforward – no front desk fuss, just a key code sent via email, which felt more like crashing at a mate’s place than a stuffy hotel. The building itself has that modern loft vibe, all exposed brick and high ceilings, but it’s not pretentious; there’s a faint salty breeze from the nearby harbor that hits you as soon as you step inside, reminding you you’re basically on the edge of the Yarra.

What really sold me on this place was the sheer space – three whole storeys, for crying out loud. The ground floor’s got this open-plan living area with a kitchen that’s actually stocked well enough to whip up a brekkie (think fresh coffee grounds and a decent espresso machine, not those sad hotel pods). I spent one morning lounging on the plush leather couch, listening to the distant hum of ferries chugging along the water – it’s quieter than you’d expect for Docklands, especially on weekdays when the office crowd thins out. Upstairs, the bedrooms are airy with those big windows overlooking the street; nothing fancy like skyline views, but you catch glimpses of the Bolte Bridge lights at night, which is kind of magical after a day exploring. Oh, and the bathroom – heated floors! That was a nice touch in Melbourne’s fickle winter, though the water pressure could be a tad stronger, you know? It’s rated a solid 7.8, which feels about right; it’s luxurious without being over-the-top, but maybe not ideal if you’re after round-the-clock concierge service. I wandered down to the nearby District Docklands shops for a bite – places like Cargo Restaurant are just a five-minute stroll, perfect for grabbing some fresh seafood or hitting up the outlet stores.

All in all, if you’re traveling with a small group or just want room to spread out without the hotel chain sterility, this loft’s a gem. It’s got that 4-star polish but with a lived-in feel – well, sort of like a high-end apartment rental that doesn’t skimp on the comforts. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in summer when Docklands buzzes with events at Marvel Stadium (it’s literally a stone’s throw away). Just pack light for those stairs if you’re not keen on elevators, and time your stay for mid-week to avoid the weekend crowds spilling over from the city. You won’t regret it – it’s one of those spots that makes Melbourne feel like home, even if you’re just passing through.

The design of the interior was fabulous, loved the amount of bathrooms and toilets. The location was perfect for our trip as it allowed us to use the free trams to traverse the city with ease. The host/owner was nice to communicate with as he responded quite quickly within reasonable hours and was really understanding when it came to dealing with issues that arose on the trip.

Loved we all had our own space and 3 toilets was an absolute bonus. Beds were really comfortable and it was well equipped. Thought the lack of blinds was going to be a problem in the mornings but it wasn't. Can't top the location.

Great location, very spacious clean apartment, easy to access.

  • Barbara from New Zealand (3/10)

Given incorrect lock box code. Reserved 4 single beds. No extra bed made up and sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable, even for a child. A replacement is needed.

  • Dale from Australia (6/10)

Location was the biggest tick. The property was secure and off-street, undercover, secure parking was also a huge tick. The host was friendly and followed up our queries quickly.
