Hotel Description
I remember stepping out of the elevator on level 42 at 285 La Trobe Street, right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, and thinking, “Whoa, this is way higher up than I expected.” The place is called Lvl 42 2B1B Apartment with City Views, and honestly, it lives up to that name – you’re basically eye-level with the skyscrapers, peering out over the twinkling grid of the city at night. I mean, I stayed there last winter during one of those crisp Melbourne weeks where the wind whips down from the bay, and the views from those floor-to-ceiling windows made me forget the chill outside. Check-in was a breeze, actually – it’s one of those self-service setups with a code sent to your phone, no fussing with a front desk, which is perfect if you’re arriving late from the airport on the SkyBus (which drops you off practically at the doorstep on Little Lonsdale, just a block away). The apartment itself feels more like a sleek urban pad than a hotel room – two bedrooms with plush queen beds that actually sink in just right, not too firm like some places, and a bathroom that’s got that rain shower head I love, though the water pressure could be a tad stronger in peak hours, you know?
What really sold me was how central it is without feeling overwhelming. You’re smack in the middle of things – wander out the door and you’re on La Trobe, with trams rattling by every few minutes heading to Bourke Street Mall or even up to the Queen Victoria Market for fresh coffee and those amazing doughnuts on weekends. I grabbed brekkie there one morning, dodging the early crowds, and it was only a 10-minute stroll back. The kitchenette’s fully kitted out – fridge, microwave, even a dishwasher – so I whipped up some pasta one night instead of splurging on restaurants every time. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly quiet up there; the traffic hums below like white noise, but nothing that kept me up, especially with the thick curtains drawn. Oh, and parking – if you’re driving, there’s a secure spot in the building, but spots fill up fast during events at the nearby Etihad Stadium (now Marvel, I think? Whatever they call it these days), so book ahead. The air in the place has that fresh, just-cleaned scent, mixed with whatever’s wafting up from the street food vendors on Elizabeth Street – sort of a spicy, inviting mix that makes you hungry for exploration.
All in all, with its 4-star vibe and that near-perfect 9.8 rating, this spot’s a gem for anyone wanting to feel like a local without the hassle. It’s not flawless – the Wi-Fi dipped a bit during a rainy afternoon when everyone was streaming, I suppose – but for families or couples hitting Melbourne in summer (when the CBD buzzes with festivals), or even solo travelers like me who crave those panoramic sunsets over the Yarra, it’s worth every penny. You’d be hard-pressed to find better views or convenience – well, unless you’re splurging on the Eureka Tower, but that’s a whole other level of fancy. If you’re planning a trip, snag it early; places like this book out quick.

What could be improved: Nothing it was fine.Apartment was perfect. We will be back. – Yong from Thailand – 4 July 2025 (9/10)
The views were exceptional! We see sunrise every morning. The house was huge and spacious for 5 pax. Everything was new and clean. Woolworths at the doorstep.
What could be improved: I guess it’s the entire Gold Coast or something but we see people vaping all around. And smell weird scents that we do not recognise. Sound proofing is no good. Neighbor downstairs spoke at the top of their voices the entire night till after 2am. We asked if they could lower their voices but they didn’t try to until past 2am. It happened for 2 consecutive nights till they probably moved out. I asked over email for help. By the time they replied, we didn’t hear that group anymore.Exceptional – Katherine from Australia – 5 June 2025 (10/10)
