First Impressions
Walking into lyf Collingwood Melbourne, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical hotel — it’s got this modern, almost co-living vibe that feels refreshingly different. The lobby has this industrial-chic thing going on with exposed brick and sleek furniture, which honestly fits perfectly with the Collingwood neighborhood’s artsy character. You know what struck me most? How the staff actually seemed to know what they were talking about when I asked about the area, not just rattling off tourist spots.
Location & Neighborhood
Collingwood is one of those Melbourne neighborhoods that locals love but tourists are just starting to discover — and that’s exactly what makes it special. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Smith Street, which has some of the best hole-in-the-wall eateries and vintage shops in the city. The four-star property sits right on Oxford Street, and I mean this when I say the location is unbeatable for exploring Melbourne’s creative side. Plus, there’s parking on-site, which anyone who’s driven in inner Melbourne will tell you is basically gold.
The Room Experience
The room design is smart — really smart. Instead of cramming everything into a tiny space, they’ve created these open-plan layouts that actually feel livable. My apartment had this compact but fully functional kitchenette that wasn’t just for show (I actually cooked breakfast there). The bed was comfortable, the Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that makes you not want to leave. What I appreciated most was the workspace setup — clearly designed by people who understand that travelers actually need to get things done sometimes.
Amenities & Social Spaces
This is where lyf really shines, honestly. The communal areas feel like they’re designed for people who want to connect, not just pass through. There’s this great co-working space that doesn’t feel stuffy, and the communal kitchen area where I ended up chatting with other guests over coffee. The fitness center is small but well-equipped, and there’s even a sauna that’s perfect after exploring the city on foot. The rooftop terrace gives you decent views of the Melbourne skyline — nothing spectacular, but nice for an evening drink.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it balances that boutique hotel feel with practical amenities that actually matter. Couples seem to particularly love it here (and I can see why — the neighborhood has this romantic, slightly edgy vibe), but it works just as well for solo travelers or friends exploring together. The restaurant downstairs serves solid food without the usual hotel markup, and you’re close enough to everything that you don’t feel stuck in a tourist bubble. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re experiencing Melbourne the way locals do, not just visiting it.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Melbourne before White Night festivals bathe the skyline in art projections.

What Our Guests Say
Located on a quiet street in the chicest part of Melb, I really loved how Lyf offered an apartment-feel but with hotel amenities. Big fan of Lyf's product! Their vibe maybe sounds a tad cringe, but not at all on the ground. The staying experience is so excellent, esp. for its value. The bed in this property was true luxe (the bedding omg real goose-down duvet and such a good mattress), and I really appreciated the room layout with thoughtfully placed plugs or light-switches. When I return to Melb, totally staying here! The value is supremo.
Lyf was really amazing! It was super clean, the people very friendly, the kitchen super big (and again, super clean), the small room we had was small but still very comfortable (very efficient use of space, in a way that even the small rooms feel spacious); they had a free herbs station; nice outdoor area; there even was free gym included (you can use one of the two gym cards of Lyf (if available) that allows you to go to this gym nearby for free); free coffee (fantastic cappuccino’s) every morning; laundry washing machines ($4 for a wash); and located in the heart of the best area of Melbourne: Fitzroy, this beautiful lively and artsy neighbourhood (which, may i add, is much much nicer (cuter, more pretty and friendlier) than the CBD!). Last but not least, sharing a small room with a double bed with my friend, Lyf was affordable (the same price as a private double bedroom at a hostel). This makes Lyf an amazing place where people of all ages can stay at, which gives it this very nice, friendly, comfortable vibe. All in all, Lyf was 10/10.
welcoming, very friendly and such a cool vibe.
Friendly atmosphere, working areas and comfy bed. Down the road from some great restaurants and coffee shop next door
It was very convenient to my daughters place; I don't remember asking for a quiet room, but it was quiet. Would have liked a kettle in the kitchenette, but maybe there was one and I couldn't find it. Close to cafes.
Every thing it was super cool definitely stay here again
Great
Nice and clean !
Sustainability, communal services
Staff was always friendly and warm welcoming. I stayed at another hotel of the same parent corp not long ago (service was terrible…), this one has much better service. Also, the mattress is super comfy!
