First Impressions
Walking into Mantra 100 Exhibition, you immediately get that “right in the thick of things” feeling that makes Melbourne so addictive. This four-star property sits smack dab on Exhibition Street, and honestly, the location is pretty much unbeatable — I mean, you’re literally steps away from everything that matters in the city center. The lobby has that sleek, modern Australian vibe without being too flashy, which I actually appreciate after staying in some overly dramatic hotels.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you can walk to Flinders Street Station in about five minutes, which means the entire city becomes your playground. The Royal Exhibition Building is practically next door (hence the name, obviously), and you’re within easy walking distance of both the Carlton Gardens and the Queen Victoria Market. What really surprised me was how quiet the room stayed despite being on such a busy street — the windows do their job well.
The Room Experience
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without any unnecessary frills. I stayed in one of their standard rooms and found the space surprisingly generous for Melbourne standards. The bathroom was modern and well-appointed, though nothing groundbreaking. What I really appreciated was the blackout curtains — essential when you’re dealing with jet lag or just want to sleep in after exploring the laneways until late.
Breakfast and Practical Perks
The continental breakfast gets the job done, and they offer a grab-and-go option which is honestly perfect when you want to catch the early tram to St. Kilda or have morning plans in the Royal Botanic Gardens. There’s decent coffee (this is Melbourne, after all), and the selection covers the basics without trying to be something it’s not. Parking is available, though like everywhere in central Melbourne, it’ll cost you — but honestly, you probably won’t need a car from this location anyway.
Why Guests Love It
The location score speaks for itself — couples especially seem to get it, rating the area 9.2 for romantic getaways, and I can see why. You’re close enough to duck into those hidden laneways for dinner, catch a show in the theater district, or just wander through the city’s incredible coffee culture. The staff knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward spots that aren’t in every guidebook. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re staying in Melbourne rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.
