Hotel Description
You know, I rolled into the Mantra Melbourne Airport pretty late one night after a delayed flight from Sydney – it was one of those red-eyes that leave you half-asleep and cranky. The place is tucked right on the corner of Melrose and Trade Park Drive in Tullamarine, basically a stone’s throw from the airport terminals. I mean, if you’re landing at MEL, you can hop on their free shuttle (it runs every 15 minutes or so, even in the wee hours) and be there in under 10 minutes – no messing around with taxis or those sketchy rideshares when you’re jet-lagged. Honestly, that proximity saved me; I didn’t have to deal with the traffic snarl on the Tullamarine Freeway, which can be a nightmare during peak hours, especially if there’s roadwork going on near the Calder Highway interchange. The check-in was smooth, too – the front desk folks were chatty but efficient, and they even tossed in a tip about a decent coffee spot down on Mickleham Road if I needed a morning pick-me-up. Walking into the lobby, it had this clean, no-fuss vibe with those big windows letting in the runway lights – sort of industrial-modern, you know? – but without feeling sterile.
What really stood out, though, was how they handle the whole airport hotel thing without it being a total buzzkill. The rooms are spacious enough – I had one on the upper floor facing away from the tarmac, so the plane noise was more of a distant hum than a roar, especially with the double-glazed windows shut tight. (Pro tip: ask for a room on the Trade Park side if you’re a light sleeper; the Melrose Drive end picks up a bit more traffic rumble in the mornings.) Bed was comfy, like sinking into a cloud after a long day, and the bathroom had those rain showerheads that actually deliver – none of that weak trickle you get in some places. They’ve got a small gym and pool downstairs, which I hit up early one morning; it’s nothing flashy, but functional for shaking off travel stiffness. Breakfast in the restaurant was solid – think fresh croissants and decent eggs, though it gets crowded around 7 a.m. when all the business travelers swarm in. Oh, and parking? If you’re driving in, they’ve got undercover spots right there, which is a godsend during Melbourne’s unpredictable rain spells. Well, one minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but it sorted itself out after a quick reset.
All in all, if you’re flying in or out of Melbourne and need a spot that’s practical without skimping on comfort, this is it. It’s not some luxury retreat – don’t come expecting spa treatments or skyline views – but for a 4-star joint with an 8.1 rating, it punches above its weight, especially for the price (I snagged a room under $200 mid-week). I’ve stayed at fancier places downtown, like near Federation Square, but honestly, for airport convenience, this beats schlepping into the city. Perfect for layovers, early flights, or even if you’re road-tripping and want to avoid the CBD chaos. I’d go back in a heartbeat – just remember to pack earplugs if you’re sensitive to that faint jet engine whine at dawn.

Jimena from New Zealand (8/10)
The Hotel was close to the airport and the very accomodating shuttle service was often, secure and very friendly drivers. The room was good, and suited our needs perfectly. The hotel has everything. A good restaurant, to have any meals or a cold beer after walking all day. Was lovely and very helpful to have meet Linda, from the Restaurant she went beyond her way to help us use the public transport to see Melbourne from another perspective. So thank you Linda and everyone from the shuttle service who drives us for making our stay special.
We hope you have a great year ahead! 😉Jim from Netherlands (8/10)
