I mean, this is a five-star property, so you’d expect nothing less, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the place that sets it apart from those stuffy corporate hotels you sometimes encounter.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, the location is probably the hotel’s biggest selling point — and that’s saying something. You’re right in Southbank, which puts you within walking distance of pretty much everything that matters in Melbourne. The Yarra River is literally at your doorstep, and you can stroll across to Flinders Street Station or Federation Square in about ten minutes. What I love is that you get all the energy of being in the city center, but Southbank has this slightly more relaxed, cultural vibe with the arts precinct and riverside promenade. Couples especially seem to love it here — I can see why, given all those romantic riverside walks and the proximity to great restaurants.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was spacious and thoughtfully designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows that actually make a difference — you know how some hotels promise city views and deliver a brick wall? Not here. The furnishings strike that perfect balance between luxury and comfort, and the bed is genuinely excellent (I’m picky about mattresses). The bathroom feels indulgent without being over the top, with a rainfall shower that’s actually powerful enough to wake you up in the morning.

Dining & Amenities

The buffet breakfast is solid — not groundbreaking, but definitely above average with good variety and quality ingredients. What I appreciated was that they didn’t try to do too much; instead, they focused on doing the basics really well. The spa facilities are worth mentioning too, especially after a long day exploring the city. There’s also on-site parking, which honestly is a godsend in this part of Melbourne where street parking can be a nightmare.

Why Guests Love It

Look, there are fancier hotels in Melbourne, and there are cheaper ones, but Mantra Southbank hits this sweet spot where everything just works. The staff genuinely seem to care about your experience, the location means you’re never more than a few minutes from wherever you want to be, and the whole place has this relaxed luxury feel that doesn’t make you feel like you need to whisper in the corridors. It’s the kind of place where you can come back after a day of sightseeing, kick off your shoes, and actually relax — which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given even at five-star properties.

  Great location for Southbank restaurants, only 500m to the nearest big supermarket, walking distance to CBD shopping and to the City Entrance for the Australian Open Tennis. We had a great view and the apartment was large and roomy

  Great view. Excellent location, comfy. Road noise quite busy/loud at times. But we enjoyed it, closed up much quieter at night. Excellent facilities. Staff were awesome. Pool great. Will hopefully stay again.
