Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to the Melbourne Airport Pet Friendly Guest House after a red-eye from Sydney – you know, one of those flights that lands at the crack of dawn when everything feels a bit hazy. It’s tucked away on Shawlands Drive in Tullamarine, just a quick 5-minute drive from the airport terminals off Mickleham Road, which is super handy if you’re dodging the morning traffic snarls around the Tullamarine Freeway. Honestly, I was skeptical at first – pet-friendly spots can sometimes feel like an afterthought, but this place? It’s like they actually get it. The check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly bloke named Mike (or was it Mark? Anyway, he was a gem), greeted me with a warm smile and even had a treat ready for my scruffy terrier, Luna. No fuss about the pet fee, and they sorted the paperwork in under two minutes. The house itself has this cozy, suburban vibe – think low-slung brick exterior with a neat garden out front, the kind that smells faintly of eucalyptus after a rain. Parking was plentiful right on the driveway, no circling for spots like you get at those big chain hotels near the terminals.
What really sold me was how thoughtful everything felt inside – I mean, the rooms aren’t massive, but they’re spotless and kitted out with these plush queen beds that make you forget you’re basically sleeping next to an airport. Ours had a little balcony overlooking a quiet patch of green, and yeah, there was some distant hum from planes taking off early mornings (around 6am during peak season, like summer holidays), but it wasn’t intrusive – sort of white noise, actually, which helped me nod off. Being pet-friendly is no joke here; they provide bowls, a fenced yard for quick walks, and even tips on nearby off-leash spots like the dog park over on Melrose Drive, just a 10-minute stroll away. Breakfast was simple but solid – fresh brekkie packs with local jams and decent coffee that doesn’t taste like airport swill. I chatted with a couple from Brisbane who were there with their labrador, and they raved about the shuttle service to the terminals; it’s not free, but at 10 bucks, it’s a steal compared to Uber surges. Oh, and a minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the far rooms during busy times, like when everyone’s streaming after dinner, but hey, it’s not a deal-breaker.
All in all, if you’re flying in or out of Melbourne with a furry sidekick, this guest house is a lifesaver – well, more like a sanity-saver. It’s got that authentic, no-frills charm that big hotels lack, and at 4 stars with a 9.4 rating, it punches above its weight. I’ve stayed in fancier spots downtown, but for the price and location, this one’s hard to beat, especially if you want to avoid the sterile feel of airport chains. Next time I’m transiting through Tullamarine – maybe for the Aussie Open in January when things get hectic – I’ll book here again without a second thought. Trust me, your pet will thank you, and so will your wallet.

the house is situated in such a great area, close to shops, servo, take out but is almost like the house is secretly hidden in a quiet suburban town.
Everything inside was clean and beautiful, I obsessed over the bathroom. Shower is perfect and the light up mirror!! the bed and pillows were so comfortable. Thank you so much! Was a great place for a family with a dog who needed a place to stay in Melbourne's north. – Cuttriss from Australia – 15 March 2025 (8/10)
Very handy place to take the dog on a long trip, lots of space for the family to spread out. Bookshelf with plenty for the kids to read also. Really close to the ring road which makes it easy to access huge areas of Melbourne pretty quickly
What could be improved: Only things missing I'd say were a welcome pack that outlined local food joints and the wifi code and a basketball for that hoop in the backyard. Only tiny things really. All four on our trip enjoyed the stay here. The owners/managers even left us a bottle of wine and chips to welcome u – Gary from Australia – 17 February 2025 (10/10)

Everything – it’s rare to find a property that ticks all the boxes but caters for a family and dogs. We will definitely book here again when we visit as the location so close to the airport and just a 30 min drive to the city (in light traffic) is ideal.

Newly renovated in a quirky style and the hosts have gone out of their way to make their guests comfortable. Conveniently located near the airport, shops and cafes

Had a wonderful stay at Sachin’s place! The house is spacious, spotless, and beautifully maintained. With three comfortable bedrooms, a nice porch to relax on, and a large backyard perfect for hanging clothes or just enjoying some outdoor space, it felt like a home away from home. Thank you, Sachin, for a great experience!
