Mercure Welcome Melbourne Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Mercure Welcome Melbourne, you immediately get that “right in the thick of things” feeling — and I mean that in the best way possible. This four-star hotel sits smack in the middle of Little Bourke Street, which honestly couldn’t be more perfect if you’re trying to experience what Melbourne is actually about. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being too sterile, and the staff genuinely seem to know their stuff about the city.
Location That Actually Matters
You know what’s great about staying here? You can literally walk to everything that matters. Chinatown is right outside your door — I’m talking about stepping out and immediately being surrounded by some of the best dumplings and late-night eats in the city. Federation Square and the Yarra River are maybe a five-minute stroll, and if you’re into the laneways (which, let’s be honest, is half the reason people come to Melbourne), you’re already positioned perfectly to explore them. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just marketing fluff — couples especially seem to love it here, and I can see why.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was what I’d call “smart comfortable” — not trying to be flashy, but everything worked exactly as it should. The bed was actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how many hotels mess this up), and the bathroom had decent water pressure. What I appreciated most was the soundproofing — considering you’re in the heart of the city, it’s remarkably quiet at night. The windows give you a proper view of Melbourne’s urban landscape, which changes character completely from day to night.
Breakfast Worth Mentioning
Here’s something that surprised me — the breakfast spread is genuinely diverse and well-executed. They’ve got continental options, vegetarian choices, and Asian dishes that actually taste authentic, not like some hotel’s attempt at “fusion.” The buffet setup flows well, and honestly, starting your day with proper coffee (this is Melbourne, after all) while planning your city exploration feels pretty ideal. I mean, you could easily skip it and hit up one of the countless cafes nearby, but why rush when you’re already paying for it?
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is that it doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-located hotel that understands its role in your Melbourne experience. The 7.5 rating reflects exactly what you get: reliable comfort in an unbeatable spot. You’re not paying for unnecessary bells and whistles, but you’re also not sacrificing quality. Whether you’re here for the food scene, the cultural stuff, or just to wander around one of Australia’s most walkable cities, you’ll end each day grateful you chose somewhere so central. Plus, there’s something to be said for parking availability in this part of town — trust me, that’s not always a given in Melbourne’s CBD.

I like the location, breakfasts are good, I can manage to find enough Gluten free food to eat, muesli, bread ( toast) which is cooked separately. Hot foods eggs, bacon , sometimes mushrooms or tomato. Rooms are comfortable and so are the beds. The staff are pleasant and friendly especially the breakfast team.
