Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to this spot in Brunswick East – it’s right off Lygon Street, you know, that stretch where the Italian delis and coffee spots start blending into those funky little breweries. The address is technically 3057 Melbourne, but honestly, it’s got that inner-north vibe that’s way more laid-back than the CBD hustle just a quick tram ride away. I mean, I hopped on the 1 or 6 line from right around the corner and was in the city center in under 15 minutes – super handy if you’re here for work or sightseeing, but without paying those insane downtown prices. The place itself, called the Modern 1 Bedroom Apartment, feels like someone’s cool urban pad rather than a sterile hotel room. I checked in late one evening after a flight from Sydney, and the keyless entry was a breeze – no front desk drama, just a code texted ahead, which was perfect because I was wrecked and didn’t want to chat with anyone.

What really sold me was how lived-in and practical it all felt, you know? The apartment’s got this sleek, modern setup – think polished concrete floors that stay cool even in Melbourne’s unpredictable summer heat (and yeah, it can get sticky around January, so pack light layers). The bedroom’s spacious with a queen bed that’s actually comfy, not one of those saggy hotel mattresses that leave you aching – I slept like a log, even with the faint hum of trams rattling by on Nicholson Street in the mornings. The kitchenette’s fully kitted out; I whipped up brekkie with fresh produce from the nearby CERES Community Environment Park market – that’s this organic gem locals swear by, just a short walk away, where you can grab heirloom tomatoes that smell like actual earth. There’s a balcony too, overlooking a quiet courtyard – nothing flashy, but great for sipping a flat white and watching the neighborhood wake up. Oh, and parking? Street spots are doable if you circle a bit, but it’s tight during peak hours – I lucked out, but maybe book a spot nearby if you’re driving. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during a video call, but it sorted itself out quick enough, and for an 8.2 rating on a 4-star scale, it’s solid value without feeling cheap.

All in all, if you’re after a base that’s close to the action but lets you dip into Melbourne’s real scene – like wandering to Brunswick’s street art alleys or hitting up bars on Sydney Road – this apartment nails it. It’s not perfect; the building’s a bit echoey at night if neighbors are rowdy, but that’s city living for you. I stayed a week last spring and left feeling like I’d actually experienced the place, not just passed through. Well worth it for solo travelers or couples who want space without the tourist trap feel – sort of like crashing at a mate’s stylish flat, but with hotel perks.

Sofa, tv and balcony – layout worked well.

What could be improved: Shower made bathroom slippery

  • Superb – Marnie from New Zealand – 18 June 2023 (9/10)

Great modern apartment, well-appointed, very close to 96 tram, quiet at night

  • Nash's stay in Melbourne. – Nebojsa from United Kingdom – 30 January 2024 (8/10)

    Well designed and functional space.
    Good all around equipment.

What could be improved: Low intensity continuous noise from an unit (cooling?) on side narrow balcony attached to both living and sleeping areas. Also, too many automatic agency massages, irritating.

  • Comfortable and convenient. Due to Melbourne family location, would definitely stay again. – Andrew from Australia – 11 May 2024 (7/10)

Location was great. Very close to tram stop and short walk to Lygon St.

What could be improved: Mould in shower, laundry closet door couldn’t close fully and balcony window blind sticking and hard to wind up. Grapes still in fridge on arrival and white ladies jacket in built in. No shower body wash in bottle, had to buy own soap.

  • Very good – Josephine from Australia – 15 November 2023 (8/10)
