Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to 70 Southbank Boulevard after a long drive from the airport—honestly, if you’re coming in from Tullamarine, just hop on the Citylink tollway and you’re there in under half an hour, traffic permitting. The building, Australia 108, towers over everything like it’s staking its claim on the Melbourne skyline, and our spot on the 21st floor (that’s what the #AU21 bit means, I think) felt like stepping into a sleek little urban escape. It’s not your typical hotel—more like a modern one-bedroom apartment that’s been kitted out for folks who want to feel at home without the fuss. The check-in was a breeze; we got a code for the door via email, no waiting around in a lobby, which was perfect because we arrived late after catching a show at the Arts Centre just a short walk away on St Kilda Road. You know, Southbank’s got that buzz—cafes spilling out onto the promenade along the Yarra River, and the smell of fresh coffee from those little spots like Higher Ground mixing with the faint river breeze. But up here, it’s surprisingly quiet at night; the double-glazed windows block out the tram clatter from below, though you might hear the occasional siren if it’s a busy weekend.

What really sold me on this place was how it balances that high-rise glamour with practical touches—it’s rated a solid 9.2 for a reason, you know? The apartment’s got this clean, minimalist vibe: think glossy white kitchen counters (fully equipped, by the way, with a Nespresso machine that saved my mornings), a comfy queen bed with those crisp, hotel-quality sheets that actually smell like they’ve been freshly laundered, and a living area that opens up to floor-to-ceiling views of the city lights twinkling over the river. We spent one evening just lounging on the balcony—well, it’s more of a small outdoor space, but man, watching the sunset hit the Eureka Tower next door is something else. Parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’re driving; the building has secure spots, but they’re extra and book up fast during peak times like the Australian Open in January, so sort that out ahead. Oh, and a minor gripe: the bathroom’s on the compact side, with a shower that could use a bit more pressure—I mean, it’s fine, but after a day wandering Federation Square or hitting the markets at South Melbourne, you want that spa-like rinse. Still, for a 4-star setup, it’s spot-on value, especially if you’re a couple or solo traveler wanting to cook your own brekkie instead of shelling out for room service.

All in all, if you’re plotting a Melbourne trip and fancy being right in the thick of Southbank’s vibe—close enough to stroll to Crown Casino for a flutter or hop the tram to the CBD without breaking a sweat—this apartment’s a gem. It’s got that authentic city-living feel without the pretension, and honestly, waking up to those views made the whole stay memorable. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the area’s a tad less crowded and you can snag a deal. Just pack light; the elevator’s quick, but lugging bags up to 21 isn’t ideal.

Reviews

  • 6D5N stay in Australia 108 – Jie from Singapore – 18 October 2024 (9/10)

Amazing location. 5 to 10mins walk to Woolsworth, Godot Café (great food), Australian Ballet, Hamer Hall, and a couple more minutes into the bustle of Flinders. Easy to collect the keys and tap in the various doors & elevator access. Air conditioning system was decent, though it could take a while to warm up on colder days.

What could be improved: House was clean enough, although the carpets and sofa were a little stained and dusty. Not sure if the full mirrors on the wardrobe would be a popular choice for fengshui-fans.

  • Great location, easy to deal with, everything we needed. – Sally from Australia – 28 April 2025 (8/10)

Location, had everything we needed, spacious.

What could be improved: Bed and couch were not very comfortable. Some staining on couch and all over the rug.

  • Superb – Mel from Australia – 22 June 2024 (9/10)

Great location. Easy walk across to the river and many restaurants. 5 minute walk to Crown Casino. Very quiet! Great view of the river. Lovely to have an apartment with some space rather than just a room. It was a little tricky to get in – didn't have the code to the lockbox, but host responded immediately. Really happy with my choice and my stay in Melbourne.

    What could be improved: Pillows.

  • Superb – Hong from Taiwan – 13 July 2025 (9/10)

    全套設備都有,還有調味料.食用油。
    離超市也很近,步行5分鐘就有woolwoths。

    What could be improved: 雖然位於市中心,但樓下沒有電車或公車,約需步行7到10分鐘到公/火車或電車站。

  • Exceptional – Weronika from Poland – 13 April 2025 (10/10)

  • Exceptional – Ya from Taiwan – 1 December 2023 (10/10)
