Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to the Modern 3-level Townhouse on a breezy afternoon in Port Melbourne – you know, that spot right off Bay Street where the air always carries a hint of salty sea from the bay. The address is 3207, tucked into a quiet residential pocket that’s surprisingly chill for being so close to the action. Honestly, I was relieved to spot the free parking spot out front; parking in Melbourne can be a nightmare, especially if you’re coming from the city side via the West Gate Bridge during peak hour – it’s like a godsend not having to circle blocks or shell out for those pricey lots near the beach. The townhouse itself looks sleek from the outside, all clean lines and modern vibes, not some cookie-cutter hotel tower. Check-in was a breeze – no front desk hassle, just a key code sent ahead, which worked perfectly even though I arrived a bit early after grabbing coffee at one of those little cafes on Rouse Street. Well, sort of early; the place was spotless and ready, which isn’t always the case in these self-contained setups.
Stepping inside, it’s got that fresh, airy feel – three levels mean plenty of space to spread out, with the living area on the ground floor opening up to a small patio (great for morning brews, though watch out for the occasional gusty wind off Port Phillip Bay that rattles the outdoor furniture). The kitchen’s fully kitted out, you know, with a proper oven and dishwasher – I actually whipped up a quick pasta one night using stuff from the IGA down the road, saving me from eating out every meal. Bedrooms are up top, comfy with those plush linens that don’t feel like they’ve been through a hundred washes, and the bathrooms have rain showers that are a treat after a day wandering the beach paths. It’s rated 8.3 for a reason; everything’s modern without being over-the-top flashy – think matte black fixtures and big windows letting in that soft Melbourne light. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet at night, except maybe for the distant hum of the occasional tram on the 109 line heading to the CBD (which, by the way, is just a 15-minute ride away if you want to hit up Federation Square or the markets). I mean, it’s not dead silent like the suburbs further out, but for Port Melbourne, it’s peaceful – no rowdy pub crowds spilling over from nearby spots like the London Tavern.
All in all, if you’re after a home-away-from-home vibe in Melbourne’s bayside without the hotel stiffness, this place nails it. It’s perfect for families or small groups – we had four of us and never felt cramped, though those stairs might be a workout if you’ve got mobility issues or heavy bags (no elevator, obviously, being a townhouse). Summer’s the busy season here with beachgoers and the Spirit of Tasmania ferry crowds, so book ahead, but off-peak? It’s a steal for the location, just steps from sandy walks and easy drives to the city or even down to St Kilda. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat – it made exploring Melbourne feel effortless, like I was a local crashing at a mate’s pad rather than some tourist trap. (Word count: 428)
