First Impressions
Walking into Modern Comfort Meets City Skyline, you immediately get that “this is exactly what I was hoping for” feeling. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard but gets everything right — the lobby has this clean, contemporary vibe without being cold or sterile. You know what really caught my attention? The floor-to-ceiling windows that give you a preview of those Melbourne views you’re going to wake up to.
Location & Getting Around
Honestly, the Southbank location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without the chaos. You’re literally steps from the Yarra River, and I mean literally — I could see people jogging along the riverbank from my room. The Crown Casino complex is right there if that’s your thing, but more importantly, you can walk to Flinders Street Station in about ten minutes. Having free parking on-site is actually a big deal in Melbourne — most places either don’t have it or charge you an arm and a leg for it.
The Room Experience
The rooms live up to that “modern comfort” promise in the name. Mine had this great setup where the bed faced the windows, so you wake up looking out over the city skyline — which, let’s be honest, never gets old. The kitchen area was more functional than I expected, with a proper-sized fridge and enough counter space to actually use it. What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night, despite being so central. The blackout curtains are excellent, which matters when you’re dealing with all those city lights.
Dining & Amenities
The on-site restaurant serves decent food, though I found myself exploring the neighborhood more often — there’s just so much within walking distance. The spa facilities are solid without being over-the-top fancy. I spent a good amount of time in the fitness center, which has those same great city views and actually decent equipment. Room service was reliable when I needed it, and the staff seemed to know the area well enough to give useful recommendations.
Why Guests Love It
I can see why couples rate this place so highly — there’s something romantic about those skyline views, especially at sunset when the city lights start twinkling. But honestly, it works just as well for business travelers or anyone who wants to be centrally located without paying premium prices. The combination of that excellent location score and the practical amenities like free parking makes it feel like you’re getting more value than you’re paying for. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Melbourne, but it delivers on comfort and convenience in a way that actually matters when you’re traveling.
