I mean, West Melbourne isn’t the glitzy heart of the CBD, but that’s kind of its charm—quieter than Bourke Street’s bustle, yet you’re basically a tram ride away from everything. Checking in was a breeze; it’s one of those self-service setups with a code, which worked fine even though I arrived a bit early after dodging peak-hour traffic on the Tullamarine. The building has that sleek, modern vibe—think exposed concrete and big windows—but it doesn’t scream “hotel” at all; more like a stylish apartment block where locals might actually live.

Stepping inside my duplex unit (yeah, it’s two levels, which felt super spacious for a solo traveler like me), I was hit with that fresh, just-cleaned scent—sort of citrusy, without being overpowering. The city view from the upper floor is legit; you get these sweeping looks over the rooftops toward Docklands, and at night, the lights twinkling make it worth lingering with a coffee. The kitchenette’s well-stocked—proper Nespresso machine, not some cheap pod thing—and the bed upstairs was plush, though the pillows were a tad firm for my liking (I ended up stacking a couple to get comfy). Downstairs, there’s a cozy lounge area with a smart TV that actually connected to my Netflix without a fuss, and the bathroom had those rainfall showers that make you forget you’re not at a spa. It’s got that SOHO edge—minimalist decor with pops of color, like this funky wall art that reminded me of street murals in nearby Hosier Lane. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful for the area; you might hear the occasional tram rumble from Dudley Street, but nothing that kept me up, especially mid-week when things wind down early. Oh, and the Wi-Fi was speedy—streamed a footy match without buffering, which is more than I can say for some fancier spots I’ve stayed in.

Look, if you’re visiting Melbourne and want something that feels authentic without the tourist trap prices—say, for the Australian Open or just exploring the laneways—this place hits the spot. It’s a solid 8.3 in my book too; close enough to hop on a train at Southern Cross Station for a day trip to the Yarra Valley, or wander over to Queen Victoria Market for fresh produce on a Saturday morning. The only minor gripe? No on-site gym, but Flagstaff Gardens is right there for a jog, and honestly, who needs it when you’re walking everywhere anyway? I’d book it again in a heartbeat—great value, especially with that parking perk saving you from circling blocks like a lost tourist.   We were really surprised by how much space there was. It was cool having an upstairs/downstairs. It was clean and the beds were comfortable. The instructions were thorough and I do not think we would have managed without them as the building was a little complicated.
  
  What could be improved: The parking was a little tricky for us but it was fabulous having a free spot so cannot really complain!
