The building itself feels secure, with that modern buzz of city life outside, but inside, it’s surprisingly quiet – well, except for the faint hum of trams on St Kilda Road during rush hour, which actually lulled me to sleep some nights.

What really sold me was how the apartment lives up to that “urban oasis” vibe without trying too hard. It’s a proper two-bedroom setup, spacious enough for a small group or family – my partner and I spread out with room to spare. The living area opens onto a balcony with killer views of the Melbourne skyline, especially at dusk when the lights start twinkling over the river (pro tip: grab a coffee from the little spot on Southbank Promenade and watch the sunset from there). The kitchen’s fully kitted out – stainless steel everything, even a dishwasher that didn’t make that annoying racket like some places do – and we whipped up brekkie most mornings using stuff from the Queen Victoria Market, which is just a quick tram ride away on the 96 line. Beds were plush, with those crisp white linens that feel like a hug after a day exploring, and there’s a washer-dryer combo that saved us from overpacking. Oh, and parking – yeah, it’s underground in the building, but spots can fill up fast during events at the Arts Centre nearby, so book ahead if you’re driving. Noise-wise, it’s mostly chill, though you might hear the occasional party boat on the Yarra if it’s a weekend in peak season like January.

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that feels more like a stylish home base than a sterile hotel room – and with that 9.4 rating, it’s no fluke – this is it. Sort of pricey for budget travelers, but worth it for the location; you’re steps from Federation Square and the NGV, yet tucked away enough to unwind. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of Melbourne life, you know? If I head back, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – just maybe avoid the height of Aussie Open time when Southbank turns into a madhouse.
