Nook Melbourne Apartments Overview

I remember pulling up to Nook Melbourne Apartments on City Road in Southbank – you know, that stretch right by the Yarra River where the traffic hums along but doesn’t quite overwhelm everything. It’s at 173, tucked in among those glassy high-rises that make Melbourne feel so alive, especially at dusk when the lights start flickering on across the water. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first; I’d just come from a chaotic drive through the CBD, dodging trams on Flinders Street, and parking here – well, it’s not the easiest, with spots in the underground garage that fill up quick during peak hours like weekends when everyone’s heading to Crown Casino nearby. But the check-in? Super smooth, no fuss – the staff handed over the keycard with a genuine smile and a quick tip on the best coffee spot down on Southbank Promenade, which, let me tell you, saved my morning the next day. Stepping into the lobby, it’s got this modern, understated vibe – think sleek tiles underfoot that echo a little, and a faint scent of whatever they’re using to keep the place spotless, sort of like fresh linen mixed with eucalyptus, which feels very Aussie.

What really won me over, though, were the apartments themselves. I mean, these aren’t your cramped hotel rooms; mine was a one-bedroom setup with a full kitchen – stainless steel everything, even a dishwasher, which came in handy after I grabbed some fresh produce from the Queen Victoria Market (just a 10-minute tram ride away, by the way). The balcony overlooked the river, and on quiet evenings, you’d hear the distant chatter from joggers along the path or the occasional boat horn – not too noisy, actually, unless it’s a big event night at the MCG, which is across the way in the sports precinct. The bed was plush, with those high-thread-count sheets that make you sink in, and the Wi-Fi was rock-solid for streaming, no buffering even during peak times. Oh, and there’s a small gym and pool on-site – nothing flashy, but the pool’s heated, which is a godsend in Melbourne’s unpredictable winters. I did notice the air con could be a tad finicky, humming a bit louder than I’d like at night, but hey, that’s minor compared to how self-contained it all feels. It’s perfect for families or anyone staying longer than a weekend; I cooked up a storm one night with ingredients from South Melbourne Market, and it felt like a home base rather than just a pit stop.

All in all, if you’re hitting Melbourne for the arts scene – think NGV or the theaters around Federation Square, both a short walk or tram hop from here – Nook’s a smart pick. It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling pretentious, and with a 9.1 rating floating around, it’s clear others agree. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the jacarandas bloom along the river paths; just book early if you’re coming during the Grand Prix season, as Southbank gets buzzing. You know what? It reminded me why I love this city – that blend of urban energy and easy escapes, all wrapped up in a spot that lets you live like a local for a bit.

An absolutely beautiful, clean and well stocked apartment. Was extremely comfortable. We had such a lovely stay. It felt very luxurious. Had everything we needed and good heating.
The Nook team made checking in easy despite me missing the messages they sent to organise.

What could be improved: Not much public transport close to apartment but the walk is not difficult. The only negative for the whole stay.

Very comfortable and roomy. We were 4 colleagues attending a conference at Melbourne Convention Centre, which was an easy 15 to 20 minute walk. It was handy having Foodland opposite. The beds were very comfy and giving 3 bathrooms was very handy. Also great views across the city.
