Platinum City Serviced Apartments Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Platinum City Serviced Apartments, you immediately get that “I could actually live here” feeling — which makes sense, since these are proper serviced apartments rather than hotel rooms. The lobby has a sleek, modern vibe without being too corporate, and honestly, the whole setup feels more like an upscale residential building than your typical hotel. It’s a four-star property that doesn’t try too hard to impress, which I actually appreciate.
Location & Neighborhood
The location on La Trobe Street is genuinely fantastic — you’re right in the thick of Melbourne‘s CBD, but not on one of those crazy busy streets where you can’t hear yourself think. You can walk to pretty much everything: Bourke Street Mall is just a few blocks away, and you’re close enough to both the theatre district and all those hidden laneways Melbourne’s famous for. I mean, couples apparently love it here (they rate the location 8.6), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll to dinner without needing taxis or trams, though the free tram zone is right there if you want it.
The Apartment Experience
Each apartment comes with a proper kitchen, which honestly changes everything about your stay. You’re not stuck eating out for every meal or surviving on minibar snacks — you can actually cook breakfast or grab groceries from the nearby Queen Victoria Market and make yourself at home. The apartments are well-designed with separate living areas, so you don’t feel like you’re living on top of your bed for days. The furnishings are contemporary and comfortable, though not particularly memorable — think quality IKEA rather than designer showcase.
Practical Perks
What I really appreciated was having a proper workspace and laundry facilities in the room — those little things that make longer stays so much easier. The building has parking available, which is actually a big deal in Melbourne’s CBD where street parking is basically impossible. There’s also a decent gym and the staff genuinely seem to know the neighborhood well — they’ll point you toward the good coffee spots (and trust me, in Melbourne, that matters). The whole operation runs smoothly without being overly formal or stuffy.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it gives you the independence of having your own space while still providing hotel-level service when you need it. You’re not paying for amenities you won’t use, but you get the essentials done really well. The location score of 8.8 isn’t just marketing fluff — you really can walk everywhere, and there’s something liberating about being able to explore Melbourne on foot from such a central base. It’s particularly good for longer stays or if you’re traveling with someone and want space to spread out without the premium prices of high-end hotels.

For the price paid, the apartment was great. Both rooms were a little small, but more than comfortable for myself and my son. It was great to have a separate sitting room too.

Super central to everything! Tram right oustide the door. Shopping and food a hop, skip and jump away. The lady who welcomed us was very lovely and patient. The price is exceptional, but I am guessing that is due to the actual state of the room. The room was very, very smelly, it has a wet carpet smell but so pungent, it was almost as if someone had urinated on the carpet in the bedroom section, it was close to being uninhabitable due to the smell. I did leave a note for the cleaners when they went in that something a little extra definitely needed to be done in there and to maybe clean the carpets or find where the smell is at least coming from to get rid of it.

The location of the hotel was really good. Super close to the main streets of the cbd and only a few minutes away from the main shopping complex. The apartment was a bit smaller than what I thought it was, but it did the job! The only flaws were that there was very little air flow in the bedrooms. The room with the double bed, one window did open, so it was good to help get the stuffy air out. However, the far back bedroom with the two singles had no airflow, so it got quite hot at night (a pedestal fan was provided, but it was still quite stuffy). The main ac unit in the living room appeared to be propped open with a wooden stick, so I'm assuming something was broken? Overall, they are minor things, considering the room was mainly used to sleep in.
