Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Punthill Essendon North after a long flight into Tullamarine – you know, that airport that’s just a quick 10-minute drive away on the Tullamarine Freeway, but honestly, if you’re coming from the city center, Keilor Road can get a bit clogged with traffic during rush hour, especially around 8 AM when everyone’s heading to work. It’s right there at 261 Keilor Road, in that quieter northern pocket of Essendon, not the flashy inner suburbs but a solid, no-nonsense spot that’s perfect if you’re not into the hustle of downtown Melbourne. The building itself looks modern and unassuming from the outside – sort of like a sleek apartment block with those big glass windows catching the afternoon sun. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were friendly without being over-the-top, and they even pointed out the secure underground parking (a godsend in this area where street spots fill up fast). I mean, I appreciated that little touch – no circling the block like you might have to in busier parts of town.
What really sold me on the place was how it felt like a home base rather than just another hotel room. My studio apartment – yeah, they call them apartments here, which is spot-on – had this cozy kitchenette with a proper stove and microwave, so I whipped up a quick brekkie using stuff from the IGA supermarket just a short walk down Keilor Road. The bed was plush, with those crisp white sheets that actually smell fresh, not like some stale hotel scent, and the bathroom had decent water pressure (always a win after traveling). There’s a small gym and outdoor pool, too – I snuck in a swim one morning when it was quiet, though fair warning, it can get breezy out there in winter, and you might hear the occasional plane rumbling overhead from Essendon Fields nearby. It’s not deafening or anything, but if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the road. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Solid and free, which mattered for catching up on emails. I wandered out to grab coffee at that little cafe strip on Buckley Street – locals swear by the flat whites there – and it was nice being close to Windy Hill, the old Essendon footy ground, if you’re into AFL games during the season. Summers here are mild, but the area buzzes more on weekends when families hit the nearby parks.
All in all, if you’re flying in for business or a quick Melbourne escape – maybe to hit up the DFO outlet shopping center just a couple of kilometers away – this place is a smart pick. It’s not trying to be luxurious like those five-star joints in the CBD, but at 4.5 stars and with that solid 8.9 rating, it delivers value without the fluff. Well, except for the minor gripe about the air con being a tad noisy at night, but hey, that’s fixable with earplugs. I’d go back in a heartbeat for the convenience alone – beats schlepping into the city every day. If you’re planning a trip, book ahead for footy season; rooms fill up fast.

I was there for a short stay and the location was a recommendation based on a friend. The apartment was perfect. Very boutique. I reached really early in the morning after a 13 hour flight and the staff on duty, Luke, was so helpful and very nice. Paid a small amount for a one bedroom upgrade with a balcony and it was great. The room had everything you would need for a short stay. If you need supplies I believe you have a Coles within walking distance. You have a lot of restaurant options once you step out. The staff really makes it a good stay. Very friendly.
