Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Quest Jolimont during a quick getaway to Melbourne last spring, right when the city was buzzing with that post-AFL finals energy – honestly, if you’re into sports, staying here feels like cheating because it’s practically next door to the MCG. I mean, it’s tucked away on Wellington Parade South in East Melbourne, just a stone’s throw from the Fitzroy Gardens, where you can wander those leafy paths and catch a whiff of eucalyptus in the morning air. Pulling up after a long drive from the airport (which, by the way, is an easy 30-minute Uber ride if you avoid peak hours), the place doesn’t scream luxury from the outside – it’s more of a low-key apartment-style hotel, blending in with the Victorian terraces around it. But that’s part of the charm; no flashy lobby to intimidate you. Check-in was a breeze, the staff were these friendly locals who chatted about the best coffee spots on nearby Bridge Road – oh, and they sorted my parking right away in their undercover spots, which is a godsend because street parking in this area can be a nightmare, especially on game days when Jolimont Station spills out crowds.

What really won me over, though, was how the rooms felt like a proper home base – I had this one-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen (stocked with basics, mind you, so I whipped up brekkie without fuss), and the balcony overlooked the parade, where you’d hear the distant tram bells clanging along Clarendon Street in the evenings. It’s not super flashy, but clean and comfy, with that soft bedding that actually lets you sleep through the night – well, mostly; there’s a bit of traffic hum if your window’s open, but nothing earplugs can’t fix. I loved popping out for a jog around the Yarra River trails, just a five-minute walk away, or grabbing a flat white at one of those hole-in-the-wall cafes on Wellington Street. And get this, it’s so close to the CBD that I ditched the car and trammed everywhere – Parliament House is basically a leisurely stroll through the gardens. The gym’s decent for a quick workout, nothing over-the-top, and there’s a laundry room that saved me during a rainy spell (Melbourne weather, am I right?). Breakfast isn’t included, but they have a little cafe downstairs that does solid eggs – or just hit up the markets in Richmond if you’re feeling adventurous.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that’s more lived-in than lavish, Quest Jolimont nails it with that 4-star reliability and an 8.6 rating that feels earned, not inflated. It’s perfect for families or solo travelers who want space without the isolation – I even caught a quiet sunset from my room after a day at the Australian Open nearby (Rod Laver Arena’s right there, folks). Sure, the Wi-Fi can lag during busy times like conference seasons, but that’s a minor gripe in a city where everything else flows so smoothly. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially if you’re keen on that East Melbourne vibe – understated, green, and connected without the chaos of the city center. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, not just a tourist passing through.

This was a great spot for a night away.
The staff were lovely and very accommodating.
The only downside was that the bed was 2 singles pushed together. The beds were uncomfortable.
That said, I would happily book there again
