Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to ReadySet Apartments at Southbank Condos on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, the kind where the Yarra River looks all moody and the city skyline pokes through the clouds like it’s trying too hard. It’s right there on Southbank Boulevard, smack in the middle of that buzzing strip between the river and the arts precinct, so if you’re coming from the airport, hop on the SkyBus and it’s a quick tram ride down from Flinders Street – honestly, way easier than dealing with the traffic snarls on City Road. I mean, parking’s a bit of a hassle here; there’s underground spots for guests, but they’re tight and you might end up circling if it’s peak hour. But once you’re in, the check-in’s straightforward – no fuss, just a friendly staffer handing over the keycard with a chat about the best coffee spots nearby, like that little hole-in-the-wall on Kavanagh Street where the flat whites are killer.
What really sold me on this place – well, it’s apartments, not your standard hotel rooms, so you get that homey vibe without feeling crammed. My unit was on the higher floors, with these floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the promenade and the river – sort of mesmerizing at dusk when the lights from Crown Casino start twinkling across the water. The kitchenette’s fully kitted out (fridge, microwave, even a dishwasher), which was a lifesaver for whipping up brekkie instead of shelling out for overpriced cafe eggs every morning. The beds are comfy, plush even, though the pillows could be fluffier – I ended up stacking a couple to get it right. And the bathroom? Spacious with decent water pressure, but watch out for the extractor fan; it’s a tad noisy if you’re sensitive to that hum. Oh, and in summer, the air con is a godsend because Southbank can get sticky, especially with all the foot traffic from tourists wandering to the NGV or the markets on weekends. Noise-wise, it’s lively during the day – trams clanging by, the occasional busker on the boulevard – but it quiets down after 10 PM, which is nice if you’re not into the all-night party scene.
Look, if you’re planning a trip to Melbourne and want something that’s not just a crash pad but actually lets you settle in, ReadySet is a solid pick. It’s got that 4-star polish without being stuffy, and at an 8.2 rating, it’s clear others feel the same – families love it for the space, and solo travelers like me appreciate the independence. Sure, it’s not the ritziest spot (the lobby’s modern but basic, no fancy chandeliers or anything), but you’re steps from everything: a quick walk to Federation Square for events, or hop over the pedestrian bridge to the CBD for shopping on Collins Street. Just time it right – avoid January if you hate crowds from the Australian Open, but spring’s perfect for those riverside strolls. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat; it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, sipping wine on the balcony while the city hums below.

Location handy to Southbank river walk and Rod Laver Arena; location of key collection point was difficult for interstate travellers, one of our party had a hire car and had to drive by the convenience store, drop their partner off, drive around the block and then pick up their partner.
