Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to the RiverView on Queens Bridge Street in Southbank – you know, that bustling stretch right by the Yarra River where the trams rattle past every few minutes and the air has that faint, fresh tang from the water mixed with coffee from the nearby cafes. It’s smack in the middle of things, honestly, just a quick stroll over the bridge to the CBD or down to the Crown Casino complex if you’re into that vibe. I mean, I arrived late one evening after a long flight into Tullamarine, and the check-in was a breeze – no fuss, just a friendly staffer who handed over the keys and pointed out the secure underground parking. Two car spots? That’s a godsend in Melbourne, where finding a spot in Southbank can feel like winning the lottery, especially on weekends when the arts precinct crowds spill over from the NGV or those free concerts at Fed Square.
Stepping into the apartment – well, it’s called spacious for a reason, with three bedrooms that actually feel lived-in, not like some sterile box. The living area opens up to this balcony with killer views of the river and the city skyline twinkling at night; I spent mornings out there sipping coffee, listening to the distant hum of boats and joggers on the promenade below. The two bathrooms meant no arguments over shower time (traveling with family, you get it), and the wifi was solid – streamed a footy match without a glitch, which is saying something in a high-rise like this. There’s a pool and gym on site too; the pool’s heated, perfect for Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, though it can get a bit crowded in summer when everyone’s escaping the heat – but hey, early mornings are quiet, and the gym’s got enough equipment to keep you going without feeling like you’re in a sardine can. The place is clean, modern, with that soft carpet underfoot and a kitchen that’s fully kitted out – I whipped up brekkie a few times instead of hitting the pricey spots on Southbank Promenade. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful inside despite the street action; double-glazed windows block out most of the casino buzz from across the way, though you might hear a faint echo of live music on Friday nights if you’re sensitive to that sort of thing.
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne for a mix of city energy and some downtime – maybe with a group or family in tow – this spot’s a winner. It’s not flashy like some of the five-star joints nearby, but that 9.1 rating? Earned it through the little things, like how easy it is to hop on the 109 tram to explore further afield or wander to the markets at Queen Vic on a Sunday. I’ve stayed in a few places around here, and RiverView stands out for feeling like a home base rather than just a bed. Sure, the decor’s a tad generic – think neutral tones and IKEA vibes – but for the price and location, you’d be hard-pressed to beat it. Next time I’m back, that’s where I’ll book again.
