Seddon Studios
I remember pulling up to Seddon Studios on Bute Street after a quick drive from the city center – honestly, it's only about 15 minutes if you avoid the peak-hour snarl on Dynon Road, but I timed it wrong and got stuck behind a tram.
I remember pulling up to Seddon Studios on Bute Street after a quick drive from the city center – honestly, it’s only about 15 minutes if you avoid the peak-hour snarl on Dynon Road, but I timed it wrong and got stuck behind a tram. The place is tucked into this quiet pocket of Seddon, one of those inner-west suburbs that’s got that laid-back Melbourne vibe without the tourist crush of the CBD. You know, the kind where you can hear birds in the morning instead of honking taxis. The building itself looks like a converted warehouse or something – modern but not flashy, with those big industrial windows that let in heaps of natural light. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were these friendly locals who chatted about the best coffee spot down the road (it’s Cafe Le Chien on Barkly Street, by the way – their flat whites are killer, especially on a chilly morning when that fog rolls in off the Maribyrnong River).
What really won me over were the studios themselves – they’re like these self-contained apartments, perfect if you’re the type who hates eating out every meal. Mine had a little kitchenette with actual decent appliances, not those flimsy hotel microwaves that barely heat a pie. The bed was comfy, with those crisp white sheets that smell faintly of lavender (I think they use some eco-friendly detergent), and the bathroom had a rain shower that made me linger way too long. It’s not huge, mind you – space is a bit tight if you’re unpacking for a week, and the street parking can be a hassle during footy season when everyone floods in for games at nearby Whitten Oval. But that’s Melbourne for you; it’s authentic, right? I loved wandering out to the Greek bakery on Victoria Street in Footscray, just a 10-minute walk away – grab some spanakopita and you’re set. The neighborhood’s got this mix of old-school migrant charm and hipster spots; think vintage shops on Gamon Street and parks where locals walk their dogs at dusk. Oh, and if you’re into craft beer, there’s Advieh Brewery around the corner – I popped in one evening and ended up chatting with the bartender about the area’s history, how Seddon used to be all factories and now it’s this creative hub.
All in all, I’d say book Seddon Studios if you’re after that real Melbourne experience without the overpriced city hotels. It’s got a solid 8.9 rating for a reason – clean, well-equipped, and in a spot that’s super walkable to trams that zip you to the city or out to Williamstown for beach days. Sure, it might feel a tad isolated if you’re not used to suburbs, and the Wi-Fi dipped a bit during my stay (blame the rain, I guess), but that’s minor compared to the perks. I mean, waking up to the smell of fresh bread from the corner store and knowing you’re just steps from authentic eats? That’s why I keep coming back to places like this – it feels like home, not a pit stop. If you’re visiting in summer, go for a ground-floor room to catch the breeze; winters are cozier upstairs. Trust me, it’s worth ditching the tourist traps for.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional
Exceptional
A fabulous, welcoming and comfortable place to stay. I felt very at home here and the owners were fantastic. The studio I was in is a bit quirky but it had everything that I needed. I liked that there was cling film and plastic bags available. Also things like tea bags, salt and pepper and sugar were available.
What could be improved: The only comfy seating was positioned so you couldn’t really see the tv and was too low for my poor knees. I ended up sitting on the end of the bed or on the computer chair.
Wonderful hosts, clean and comfortable. The property was perfectly clean, very comfortable beds, good amount of social space too with a table and chairs aswell as a sofa/TV, Beau and Rhys were extremely helpful with anything we needed (recommendations, laundry, generally checking in to see how we were). Would stay again!
What could be improved: Location is fine but is slightly more out of the city so just bear in mind if you want something central.
Exceptional Very cosy studio apartment. Our host Rhys was very helpful and friendly! Top bloke!
Affordable, close to the shops and only a few minutes from flemington Racecourse via uber.
Felt more like being at home than the usual streak white high rise apartments we are used to.
Very good Location, the hosts communication and it's pretty cool!
Superb Nice waiting for bond to be refunded
What could be improved: Trip hazards un level floors
Couldn't have the elderly there
But this was minimal
Cozy, welcoming flat in a great area! We loved our long stay in the 1 bedroom apartment. Everything was as listed and the personal touches made us feel very welcome and at home. Rhys and Beau were brilliant hosts, incredibly hospitable and responsive to make sure we were well looked after. Seddon is a really nice area too.
What could be improved: No real negatives, the bed wasn’t the sturdiest but was comfortable so can’t really complain.
Great base for a Melbourne Adventure Beau and Rhys were attentive and helpful hosts for our Melbourne trip. We stayed in the three bedroom apartment which is on the first floor. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. One faces onto the quiet street at the front and the other two are at the back of the elongated apartment that is at one end of the converted factory building. Already in a quiet area, it becomes whisper quiet after 10 pm. For those of us used to using public transport on holidays, their place made a great base. Nearby Footscray Station is a major station only about 15 minutes from Melbourne CBD. The quieter Seddon and Footscray West Stations are also short walks away. The area is also well served by buses. Seddon shops are about 500 metres away offering cafes, restaurants, and small food shops. About equidistant in the other direction is downtown Footscray with more of an established inner city suburb vibe that includes a wide variety of eateries. Footscray has a wide range of inhabitants from those at the lower end of the socio-economic scale to the more upwardly mobile so don’t expect Toorak - but we certainly didn’t feel unsafe coming and going at any time.
it was divine, the owners were amazing, friendly and included us, the apartment itself was splendid, clean, tidy, spacio it was very comfortable and felt much like home
What could be improved: nothing really, it was a wonderful stay
