Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to St Kilda Central Apartments on Inkerman Street – it’s this unassuming spot in Melbourne’s 3182 postcode, tucked away from the chaos of the beachfront but close enough that you can smell the salty air if the wind’s right. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first; St Kilda can be hit or miss with all the backpackers and party crowds spilling over from Acland Street, you know? But stepping inside, it felt more like crashing at a mate’s well-kept flat than some sterile hotel chain. The check-in was a breeze – no long queues, just a friendly staffer who handed over the keys with a quick chat about where to grab the best flat white nearby (spoiler: it’s at the little cafe on Carlisle Street, not the touristy ones). And parking? Well, it’s street parking mostly, which can be a nightmare during summer festivals when everyone’s flocking to Luna Park or the Esplanade Market – I mean, plan ahead or you’ll be circling for ages. But once you’re settled, that 4-star vibe kicks in subtly; the lobby’s got this clean, modern feel with pot plants that actually look alive, and the elevators are quick, no waiting around forever.
What really sold me on the place was how it nails that apartment-style living without feeling gimmicky. My unit – a one-bedroom on the third floor – had these big windows letting in heaps of natural light, and a balcony where I could sip my morning coffee while watching the trams rattle by on nearby routes. It’s not luxurious in a flashy way, but practical: full kitchenette with a proper stove (not just a microwave), which saved me a fortune on eating out, especially with all the fresh produce from the Queen Victoria Market a short drive away. The beds are comfy, sort of that firm-but-not-too-firm feel, and the bathroom’s got decent water pressure – always a win after a day trekking around. Noise-wise, Inkerman’s quieter than, say, Fitzroy Street, but you might hear the occasional seagull or distant pub chatter at night; it’s St Kilda, after all, lively but not overwhelming if you’re not right on the strip. Oh, and during the off-season in winter, it’s blissfully peaceful – fewer crowds, and you can snag a spot on the beach without elbowing tourists. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can lag a bit in peak hours, but hey, that’s Melbourne’s spotty coverage for you, nothing a quick reset won’t fix.
All in all, if you’re eyeing a trip to Melbourne and want something that feels authentic without breaking the bank – that 8.3 rating doesn’t lie – this is your spot. It’s perfect for couples or small families who need space to spread out, maybe cook up some brekkie after hitting the St Kilda Sea Baths. You get the buzz of the suburb (think gelato on Acland, sunset walks along the pier) but a cozy retreat to come back to. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the jacarandas are blooming and everything’s just that bit more vibrant. Just remember to book early for those balcony views – they’re worth it.

I recently stayed in a one-bedroom apartment. The location was perfect—right by the tram lines, making it easy to get around the city. There’s also an Aldi nearby, which was super convenient for grabbing groceries.
The apartment itself was spacious and well-equipped, with a nice kitchen that had everything needed for cooking. The balcony was a great bonus, offering a nice spot to relax. Access to the building was easy yet very secure, which added to the overall comfort of the stay. Also, good wifi.
On top of all that, it was well-priced for the location. Overall, a great place, and I would definitely stay again!Susan from New Zealand (7/10)
