‘Studio 43’ Vintage Warehouse Vibes in Fitzroy North
I remember pulling up to Studio 43 in Fitzroy North on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, the kind where the tram tracks on St Georges Road glisten and everyone's hustling with umbrellas.
I remember pulling up to Studio 43 in Fitzroy North on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, the kind where the tram tracks on St Georges Road glisten and everyone’s hustling with umbrellas. It’s tucked away in that leafy pocket of the 3068 postcode, not far from where Queens Parade meets the Merri Creek trail, which is perfect if you’re into those early morning jogs or bike rides that locals swear by. Honestly, the place caught me off guard at first; it’s got this converted warehouse vibe that’s all exposed brick and industrial chic, but without feeling too try-hard. I mean, walking in, there’s this faint scent of aged timber mixed with fresh coffee from the little espresso machine in the lobby – sort of like stepping into an old artist’s loft that’s been given a loving polish. Check-in was a breeze, just a quick chat with the staff who actually knew the area (they tipped me off about the hidden gem bakery on Scotchmer Street for the best sourdough), and no fuss with parking – there’s spots out front, though it can get tight during peak hours when the nearby Edinburgh Gardens crowd spills over.
What really sold me on Studio 43 was how it nails that vintage warehouse aesthetic without skimping on the comforts – think king beds with those plush, slightly rumpled linens that make you want to sink in after a day wandering Brunswick Street’s vintage shops and craft beer spots. My room had these massive windows letting in that soft, diffused light (Melbourne’s weather being what it is, it was a godsend on overcast days), and the kitchenette was stocked just right – not overloaded, but with enough basics to whip up a brekkie without venturing out. You know what, the bathroom’s rainfall shower was a highlight; hot water pressure that actually works, unlike some places I’ve stayed where it’s more of a trickle. It’s rated 8.5 for a reason, I suppose – four stars that feel earned, with little touches like retro record players in some suites (I spun an old jazz vinyl one evening, and it paired perfectly with the street noise fading into quiet by 10 PM). That said, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional tram rumble from nearby might nudge you awake – nothing major, but worth noting if you’re not used to inner-north vibes. And during summer, when Fitzroy North buzzes with festival-goers heading to the gardens or the annual street parties, it can feel lively, but the place stays surprisingly insulated.
All in all, if you’re chasing that authentic Melbourne experience – the kind where you can stroll to killer cafes like Padre Coffee or grab a pint at the local pub without needing an Uber – Studio 43 is a solid pick. It’s not flawless (the Wi-Fi dipped a bit during my stay, but hey, who needs it when you’re out exploring?), but it left me wanting to book again next trip. Well, maybe in spring, when the jacarandas are blooming along the streets – that’s when this spot really shines.
Melbourne’s apartments welcome families with spacious lounges, playground courtyards, and quick rides to beachside St Kilda.

What Our Guests Say
I loved the apartment. I'd book it again if needing to go to the Fitzroy area. No breakfast included which suited me.
It was clean, homely, was light and airy with a lovely open air balcony. Close to small supermarket and tram lines.
What could be improved: There was no mirror near a power point to use the hair dryer. I passed this suggestion on the the owners. Not really a problem just an inconvenience.
Very pleasant. Great location. Very Calm Very clean and bright. Great location; very calm
