I remember pulling up to the Stunning Executive Townhouse on Northcote Street in Richmond – you know, that leafy pocket of Melbourne where the houses have this charming Victorian vibe mixed with modern renos. It’s tucked away on a quiet residential stretch, but honestly, you’re just a short stroll from the buzz of Bridge Road with its cafes and boutiques. I mean, I arrived after a long flight, and the check-in was a breeze – no front desk hassle, just a key code sent ahead, which felt more like crashing at a friend’s place than a hotel. The townhouse itself is this three-story gem, all sleek lines and high ceilings, with that fresh, woody scent from the polished floors that hits you right when you walk in. It’s rated 9.6 for a reason, I suppose – four stars, but it punches above that with the space. We had the whole place to ourselves, which was perfect for our group; the living area downstairs opens up to a little courtyard where you can sip your morning flat white and listen to the magpies warbling, away from the tram clatter on nearby Church Street.
What really sold me was how it blends executive polish with that homey feel – like, the kitchen’s fully kitted out with a Nespresso machine and proper cookware, so we whipped up brekkie instead of eating out every day. Upstairs, the bedrooms are spacious, with those plush king beds and Egyptian cotton sheets that make you sink in after a day exploring. (Pro tip: if you’re light-sensitive, the blackout blinds are a godsend, especially in summer when the sun rises at like 5 a.m.) Richmond’s such a gem of a suburb – you’re steps from the Yarra River trails for a jog, or you can hop on the 75 tram to zip into the CBD for the markets at Queen Vic. We walked to Victoria Street for pho one night; it’s authentic and packed with locals, not tourists. Parking’s a bit of a juggle on the street – permit zones and all – but there’s a spot out back if you ask in advance. Oh, and it’s surprisingly quiet at night, even though you’re close to the MCG; we were there during footy season, and the post-game crowds didn’t bleed over much. Well, maybe a distant cheer or two, but nothing that kept us up. The only minor gripe? Those stairs to the top floor are steep – great for a workout, but if you’ve got mobility issues or kids with you, it might be a huff.
All in all, if you’re after something that feels like a stylish Melbourne pad rather than a sterile hotel room, this place nails it. It’s ideal for families or business folks who want space to spread out, and at that price point in Richmond, you’re getting serious value – especially off-peak in winter when the area’s less hectic. I left thinking, yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat; it’s got that effortless cool that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a local secret.
To book a hotel in Melbourne during Grand Prix week, visitors plan ahead to balance trackside thrills with Yarra River sunsets.
