Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to 21 Isla Avenue in Glenroy – that’s that quiet northern suburb of Melbourne, just a stone’s throw from the Tullamarine Freeway – I honestly thought I’d stumbled onto some hidden gem. It’s not your flashy downtown spot; no, this is more like slipping into a comfy pair of old jeans after a long flight. The house, cheekily named Style/Comfort/Spacious 4 bedroom house plus study, sits on a leafy street where the neighbors wave and the magpies chatter away in the gum trees. I arrived around dusk last spring, right when the jacarandas were blooming – talk about a purple haze over everything – and parking was a breeze, with plenty of space on the driveway (no fighting for spots like in the CBD, thank goodness). Check-in was super low-key; the owner left a key in a lockbox and sent a quick text with tips on the best local coffee joint down on Pascoe Vale Road. It’s rated a solid 9.7 for a reason – four stars that feel earned, not inflated.
Stepping inside, well, it’s like the place hugs you back. The living area is massive, with these plush leather couches that sink just right after a day exploring, and the kitchen – oh man, fully stocked with a proper espresso machine and herbs growing on the windowsill, which made whipping up brekkie a joy (I mean, who doesn’t love the smell of fresh basil in the morning?). There are four bedrooms, each with queen beds that are actually comfy, not those rock-hard hotel ones, and the study is a godsend if you’re working remotely – I set up my laptop there and got more done than expected, thanks to the speedy Wi-Fi and that big window overlooking the backyard. It’s got this modern-Aussie vibe, with polished floorboards that creak just a tad (a minor quirk, honestly, adds character), and the bathrooms are spotless, one with a deep tub that begs for a soak after hiking in nearby Woodlands Historic Park. Noise-wise, it’s peaceful at night – no trams rattling by like in the city center – but if you’re here in summer, the air con hums efficiently without drowning out the crickets. I did notice the study could use an extra lamp for evening reading, but that’s nitpicking; overall, it sleeps up to eight comfortably, perfect for families or mates road-tripping from Sydney.
What really sold me, though, is how it feels like a home base for real Melbourne adventures. You’re only 15 minutes from the airport, so jet lag recovery is easy, and hopping on the train from Glenroy station gets you to the city in under half an hour – think Queen Vic Market for fresh produce or a quick tram to the MCG for footy season. Locally, there’s this great little bakery on Wheatsheaf Road for meat pies that rival anything in the laneways, and if you’re into nature, the Merri Creek trail is a short drive for a morning jog. Sure, it’s not walkable to the big sights, so a car helps (Uber’s cheap here too), but that’s the trade-off for space and serenity. I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially off-peak in autumn when the crowds thin out – for anyone wanting that authentic suburban Melbourne life without skimping on style or comfort. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you linger over coffee, plotting your next day out.

Helen was fantastic to deal with.Robin from Australia (10/10)
From the outside it looks like a regular suburban home . Open the door and you are in a beautifully renovated home with all the facilities you could need. 4 bedrooms and an office . The little touches Helen put into the home were well appreciated. Coffee beans for the coffee machine hit the mark.
