Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to the Stylish & Cozy 4BR Retreat on Exhibition Street – you know, that bustling stretch right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, just a stone’s throw from the edge of Chinatown and those laneways packed with dim sum spots. Honestly, finding free parking in this part of town is like striking gold; I mean, Exhibition can get chaotic with all the trams rattling by and office workers spilling out around lunchtime, but they’ve got this secure spot tucked away that saved me from circling blocks or forking out for those pricey lots near Collins Street. I arrived mid-afternoon during peak season – think summer when the Australian Open crowds flood in – and check-in was a breeze, no fuss with a code system that felt more like borrowing a mate’s place than a stuffy hotel desk. Stepping inside, it hit me how the place nails that “stylish yet cozy” vibe they promise; the living area has these plush velvet couches that sort of hug you after a long day wandering Federation Square, and the air had this faint, welcoming scent of eucalyptus from some diffuser they leave running – a nice touch that reminds you you’re in Oz.

What really sold me was how well it works for a group – we were four mates crashing there for a weekend gig at the nearby Her Majesty’s Theatre, and the four bedrooms meant no one was fighting over space. Each room’s got these blackout curtains that actually block out the early morning light (crucial if you’ve been out late at the rooftop bars on Little Bourke), and the beds are firm but comfy, like they’ve got that memory foam thing going without feeling too sinky. The kitchen’s a standout too – fully stocked with decent appliances, so we whipped up brekkie using goodies from the Queen Vic Market, just a quick tram ride away on the 19 or 35 line. Oh, and the bathrooms? Spotless, with those rain showerheads that make you linger a bit – though fair warning, the hot water can take a sec to kick in if everyone’s jumping in at once. It’s not perfect; there’s a bit of street noise filtering in during rush hour, what with the construction popping up around Parliament House lately, but it quiets down by evening, especially on weekends when the city’s energy shifts to the Yarra River spots. We even caught a glimpse of the skyline from the windows – nothing panoramic, but enough to make you feel plugged into Melbourne’s pulse.

All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s more retreat than rote hotel stay, this place delivers without breaking the bank – that 8.3 rating feels spot-on, you know? It’s ideal for families or small groups wanting to base themselves close to the action, like hitting up the NGV for some art or grabbing coffee at one of those hidden cafes on Lonsdale Street. Well, maybe skip it if you’re a light sleeper who needs dead silence, but for the rest of us, it’s a cozy gem that makes exploring Melbourne feel effortless. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially with that parking perk sealing the deal.

Reviews

  • Good, except for the key mix up. – Pam from Australia – 12 July 2025 (8/10)

    Size, location

What could be improved: Uncomfortable lounges. We asked for an extra key, they said they would drop it off but they did not. One key for six adults is not enough.

  • Good location and clean apartment. – Megan from Australia – 3 April 2025 (8/10)

The location was great and very quiet. The apartment is spacious and great for a large group.

What could be improved: The addition of a coffee machine would be great.
If you have a large group staying, having only one set of keys (and nowhere to leave them) can be problematic.

  • Very good – Steven from Singapore – 20 June 2025 (8/10)

Spacious hall, very big and nice master room but other rooms much smaller and very simple.
    Location is very convenient.

What could be improved: The master toilet door cannot be lock and 2 rooms doors cannot be lock/closed properly…

  • would love to go back – Raelene from Australia – 9 March 2025 (8/10)

Fantastic location if you want theatres etc. Spacious.

What could be improved: Air-conditioning could've been better to control.
Late check in and too early to check out.
    Missing coffee machine.

  • Overall : excellent – Sancaka from Indonesia – 22 May 2025 (10/10)

It is easy but we need a bit effort to pick the key that located a few minute walk from the apartment. If the weather is not friendly that would be matter.

What could be improved: Access to and from apartment shall be made easier

  • Very good – Anonymous from Australia – 5 June 2025 (8/10)
