The Claremont – Refined Resort Style Living
You know, I stumbled upon The Claremont while wandering through South Yarra on a whim last spring – that leafy suburb just a stone's throw from Melbourne's CBD, where the trams rattle down Toorak Road and everyone's sipping flat whites at those chic cafes on Chapel Street.
You know, I stumbled upon The Claremont while wandering through South Yarra on a whim last spring – that leafy suburb just a stone’s throw from Melbourne’s CBD, where the trams rattle down Toorak Road and everyone’s sipping flat whites at those chic cafes on Chapel Street. I mean, it’s not your flashy downtown spot, but honestly, that’s what makes it feel like a hidden gem; you’re close enough to hop on the 58 tram for a quick ride to the city, yet tucked away from the constant buzz of Flinders Street. Pulling up to the address on that quiet stretch – yeah, it’s at -37.837669, 144.99411 if you’re punching it into Google Maps – I was greeted by this elegant, low-key facade that screams “refined resort living” without trying too hard. Check-in was a breeze, even though I arrived right after lunch rush; the staff were all smiles, sorting my bags and chatting about the best local spots for a stroll along the Yarra River nearby. No long lines or stuffy formalities – just a quick key handoff and a tip about the free parking out back, which is a godsend in this parking-nightmare neighborhood, especially during peak footy season when the MCG crowds spill over.
What really sold me, though, was settling into the room – spacious, with these soft, textured linens that smelled faintly of eucalyptus (probably from some local essential oil they use, you know how Melbourne loves its native vibes). It’s a solid 4-star setup, rated around 8.3 last I checked, and it lives up to that with little touches like a balcony overlooking the manicured gardens – perfect for that morning coffee while listening to the birds chirp over the distant hum of traffic. I spent an afternoon lounging by the pool, which feels more like a private oasis than a hotel gimmick; the water was crisp, and there were these shaded cabanas where you could escape the Aussie sun, which gets brutal in summer. Food-wise, their on-site restaurant does a mean brekkie – think smashed avo on sourdough from nearby Prahran Market suppliers – but fair warning, it can get noisy on weekends when locals pop in for brunch. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Spotty in the evenings sometimes, like when everyone’s streaming, but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix. It’s those small, practical details that matter, right? Like how the rooms are quiet at night, even with the occasional tram ding in the distance – sort of muffled, not intrusive.
All in all, if you’re after a place that feels authentically Melbourne – refined but not pretentious, with easy access to the Botanic Gardens for a peaceful walk or a jaunt to the South Yarra shops for some retail therapy – The Claremont’s worth it. Well, maybe skip it if you’re on a super tight budget, as rates can climb during events like the Australian Open (it’s just a short drive from there), but for a relaxed stay with that resort-style polish, it left me wanting to book again. Honestly, it’s the kind of spot where you unwind properly, emerging refreshed for whatever adventure hits next – whether that’s exploring the laneways or just chilling with a good book by the pool.
Melbourne’s apartments welcome families with spacious lounges, playground courtyards, and quick rides to beachside St Kilda.

What Our Guests Say
Very good
Superb Location is great. place was great. very comfortable, very quiet. 👍
What could be improved: Getting in to the property on the first night was weird. It wasn't made clear to me how to enter the property and I had to have quite a lot of back and fourth with the person who gave me the keys before I managed to get in.
Very good Location strategic nearby train and tram facilities. Grocers were within walking distance
