The Olsen Melbourne Art Series Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Olsen Melbourne Art Series feels like stepping into a contemporary gallery that happens to have beds. This five-star property on Chapel Street doesn’t just display art — it lives and breathes it, with rotating exhibitions and installations that actually make you pause in the lobby. The building itself is striking, all clean lines and bold colors that stand out beautifully against the Victorian-era architecture that dominates this part of Melbourne.
South Yarra Location
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re right in the heart of South Yarra’s shopping and dining strip, but the hotel manages to feel like a peaceful retreat. Chapel Street buzzes with energy — boutiques, cafes, and some of Melbourne’s best restaurant are literally at your doorstep. I mean, you can walk to the Royal Botanic Gardens in about ten minutes, and the Prahran Market (honestly one of my favorite food markets in the city) is just around the corner. The tram stop is right there too, so getting into the CBD takes maybe fifteen minutes.
The Room Experience
The room here are genuinely impressive — spacious, modern, and those beds are something else entirely. I’m usually a light sleeper, but I slept like a rock every night. Each room features original artwork, which sounds gimmicky but actually works really well. The bathrooms are luxurious without being over-the-top, with rainfall showers and quality amenities. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in tons of natural light, and if you’re lucky enough to get a higher floor, the city views are pretty spectacular.
Dining and Amenities
The continental breakfast is solid — nothing groundbreaking, but fresh and well-executed with local touches that show they care about quality. What I really appreciated was the restaurant downstairs, which serves modern Australian cuisine that’s actually worth eating (not always a given with hotel restaurants, let’s be honest). There’s also a well-equipped fitness center and spa facilities that feel properly luxurious. The private parking is a godsend in this area — trust me, you’ll appreciate not having to circle the block looking for a spot on Chapel Street.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something about this place that keeps people coming back — the staff mentioned they have more repeat guests than most hotels, and I can see why. It strikes that perfect balance between sophisticated luxury and genuine warmth. The art theme never feels forced or pretentious, and the location really can’t be beaten if you want to experience Melbourne’s culture and dining scene. Couples especially seem to love it here (the location scored 9.3 with pairs), probably because South Yarra has this romantic, cosmopolitan vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere in the city. This exceptional property truly delivers on every front.
