The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins Melbourne Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins Melbourne, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical business hotel. The lobby has this old-world elegance that feels authentic rather than forced — I mean, you can tell they’ve put real thought into preserving the heritage character while keeping everything thoroughly modern. It’s one of those five-star properties where the luxury feels understated, which honestly makes it even more impressive. The sophisticated design elements throughout the entrance area create an immediate sense of arrival, while the carefully curated artwork and furnishings speak to the hotel’s commitment to maintaining its distinguished heritage.
Perfect Melbourne Location
The location on Little Collins Street is absolutely brilliant — you’re literally in the thick of everything that makes Melbourne special. You can walk to the laneways, the shopping precincts, and all those hidden coffee spots that locals actually frequent. What I love is that couples seem to get this immediately (they rate the location 9.5, which tells you something), because you’re close enough to everything but tucked away from the main tourist chaos. The trams are right there too, so getting around the city is actually effortless, connecting you seamlessly to Melbourne’s vibrant cultural districts and business centers.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had these gorgeous high ceilings and windows that let in so much natural light — something you don’t always get in city hotels. The design strikes this perfect balance between classic Melbourne architecture and contemporary comfort. You know what impressed me most? The attention to detail in the furnishings and the way they’ve managed to make the space feel both grand and cozy. The beds are seriously comfortable, and the bathrooms have that spa-like quality without being over the top, featuring premium fixtures and thoughtfully selected amenities that enhance your daily routine.
Dining and Breakfast
The buffet breakfast deserves its own mention because it’s genuinely well-executed. I’ve stayed at plenty of luxury hotels where the breakfast feels like an afterthought, but here they’ve clearly put effort into sourcing quality ingredients. The restaurant has this warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to linger over coffee — which is very Melbourne, if you think about it. The service throughout the hotel strikes that perfect note where staff are attentive without being intrusive. Every detail reflects the hotel’s commitment to excellence, from the carefully prepared dishes to the professional yet personable approach of the culinary team.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it captures the essence of Melbourne hospitality while delivering genuine luxury. The building has character and history, but everything functions beautifully. You’re staying somewhere that feels connected to the city’s culture rather than isolated from it. Whether you’re here for business or exploring the city with someone special, the hotel manages to enhance your Melbourne experience rather than just providing a place to sleep. That 8.6 rating reflects what I experienced — a property that consistently delivers without trying too hard to impress, creating memorable moments through thoughtful service and authentic charm.

We loved this hotel, it was very central but not noisy, breakfasts were good and there was a good menu for evening meals in the bar. Staff were very helpful, there was a public car park opposite the hotel and the parking was arranged at a reasonable price by the hotel at check in.
