Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to The Sebel Melbourne Kew on a crisp autumn afternoon – you know, one of those days when the leaves are turning gold along Cotham Road, and the whole suburb feels like it’s straight out of a postcard. It’s tucked away in Kew, this leafy pocket east of the city center, where the Yarra River bends nearby and you’ve got Studley Park just a short stroll away for those morning walks that clear your head. Honestly, after dodging the chaos of the CBD, arriving here felt like a breath of fresh air – literally, with that eucalyptus scent hanging in the air from the gum trees lining the streets. The hotel itself is this modern, understated building that blends right in with the neighborhood’s Victorian charm; no flashy neon signs or anything, just a welcoming entrance that makes you think, “Okay, this could be home for a bit.” Check-in was a breeze – the staff were chatty but not over-the-top, handing over my key with a quick tip about the best coffee spot at Kew Junction, which is only a five-minute walk down the road. Oh, and parking? They have a secure underground spot, which is a godsend if you’re driving in from the airport – saves you circling the block like I did once in Richmond.

What really sets this place apart, though – and I mean this after staying a few nights – is how it nails that balance between suburban peace and easy city access. The rooms are spacious, with these big windows letting in tons of natural light (mine overlooked a quiet garden courtyard, which was a nice surprise), and the beds? Super comfy, that kind of plush where you sink in but don’t feel swallowed – though, fair warning, the pillows are on the firmer side, so pack your own if you’re picky. There’s a kitchenette in most suites, which came in handy for whipping up breakfast from the fresh produce at the nearby Leo’s Fine Food market – you know, avoiding those pricey hotel meals. Evenings were my favorite; the place quiets down early, no rowdy bar noise seeping through the walls like some spots in the city, just the occasional hum of traffic on Cotham Road fading by 9 PM. Well, except during peak hour commutes – it can get a bit buzzy then, but nothing earplugs can’t handle. And if you’re into exploring, hop on the 48 tram right outside for a quick ride to the city or over to Bridge Road for some shopping; it’s that sort of practical setup that makes you feel like a local, not a tourist.

All in all, if you’re after a solid 4-star stay without the inner-city frenzy, The Sebel’s a winner – that 8.6 rating doesn’t lie. It’s perfect for families or solo travelers who want space to unwind (they’ve got a small gym and pool that, while not huge, do the trick for a dip after a day out), and in quieter seasons like winter, it feels even more serene. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option around Kew, but for the value – comfy digs, great location near parks and cafes, and that genuine Melbourne suburb vibe – I’d book it again in a heartbeat. Just time your visit outside of school holidays if you hate crowds at the nearby Yarra Bend trails.

We came for nearby day surgery and to catch up with friends. Location was great with everything a short distance away. We drove but public transport would also have been an easy option.
The 2 bedroom apartment was a comfy spacious choice.
Kitchen was great. Also secure parking was great.

Great location- right opposite tram 109

The room was spotless and the chamber staff very helpful. These days you don’t often get the room serviced every day and it was lovely to have this done over our stay.

A special thanks goes to Paula at our check in. She was under a lot of pressure from many phone enquiries, some tricky ones and people waiting and handling this on her own. Very professional, calm and polite. She handled our check in swiftly and we very much appreciated the help with our (tall) vehicle parking. A real boost to us. Paula deserves a medal for doing all that on her own on a Friday busy afternoon. Well done.

Very nice place to stay, close to the city.
