First Impressions
Walking into The Sophia feels more like arriving at a friend’s incredibly well-appointed apartment than checking into a typical hotel. This four-star property sits right on Swan Street in Cremorne, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — you’re basically in the heart of one of Melbourne’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The building itself has that modern Australian charm, and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how real people want to live and travel.
The Cremorne Advantage
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? Swan Street is literally one of Melbourne’s best-kept secrets for food and nightlife, but somehow it never feels touristy or overrun. I mean, you can walk to some seriously good Vietnamese restaurants, craft beer spots, and those little cafes that locals actually frequent. The trams run right past your door, so getting into the CBD takes maybe ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to Richmond and South Yarra that you feel connected to everything. Plus — and this is huge for Melbourne — there’s free parking on site, which is basically like finding gold in this city.
Living Space That Actually Works
The room setup here is what really sets The Sophia apart from your standard hotel experience. Each unit comes with a proper kitchen, and I’m talking about a real one with everything you’d need, not some sad little kitchenette with a broken microwave. The living areas feel spacious without being cavernous, and there’s this thoughtful attention to detail — good lighting, comfortable seating, storage that makes sense. It’s the kind of place where you can actually settle in for a few days and feel human, whether you’re here for business or just exploring the city.
Dining and Local Scene
While there isn’t a formal restaurant on-site, that’s actually part of the charm — you’re encouraged to explore the incredible food scene right outside your door. Swan Street has everything from late-night pho to excellent coffee, and the local pub scene is fantastic without being pretentious. The fact that you have a full kitchen means you can hit up the nearby markets and actually cook if you want to, but honestly, with options like this surrounding you, you might not need to. Couples seem to particularly love this setup — there’s something romantic about having your own little Melbourne base while being steps away from great date spots.
Why Guests Love It
What really comes through in the reviews is how this place nails that sweet spot between independence and service. You get the privacy and space of having your own place, but with the reliability and cleanliness of a well-run hotel. The location consistently gets perfect scores from guests, and after spending time here, it’s easy to see why. You’re not just staying somewhere in Melbourne — you’re actually living in one of its most authentic neighborhoods, with the freedom to explore at your own pace and the comfort of returning to a space that feels like home.

Amazing location and very. Comfortable
Location in the Richmond area was super - lots of fun little restaurants and coffeeshops. Plus located above a grocery store which was convenient. Watching the street from the windows was entertaining! Well furnished from the owner's collection of designer furniture, it was uniquely appointed.

Beautiful decor
The location is perfectly located, walking distance to cafes and city if you wanted to. Transport is easy, as tram runs in front of the building. Danny is a great host, he was attentive and gave us great information about the area for our family to visit, and food recommendations - lots of great food in this area. The apartment is divine - which is full of beautiful art, rich history and equipped with everything you need. It was great for our family. Look forward to visiting again.
Could not rate this beautiful accomodation more highly - we were absolutely thrilled with our stay. The host is super accomodating and got us sorted very last minute even though he was away for the weekend when we booked. The fridge was stocked with some goodies and he was just so helpful from A-Z... loved our stay and will be back!
Great location, tram only 2 mins walk, short journey to CBD. Lots of restaurants and cafes right at the door. Comfortable for a stay with kids or another couple. Nice and quiet but in the middle of the action.
