The StandardX, Melbourne Overview
First Impressions
Walking into The StandardX, Melbourne feels like discovering a secret that only locals know about. This five-star gem sits on Rose Street in Fitzroy, and honestly, the moment you step through those doors, you realize this isn’t your typical luxury hotel. The design strikes this perfect balance between Melbourne’s edgy street art culture and sophisticated elegance — I mean, it’s Fitzroy, so you’d expect nothing less. Every corner reveals thoughtful design choices that reflect the neighborhood’s creative spirit.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? Melbourne‘s creative heart is literally at your doorstep. Fitzroy has this incredible energy — one minute you’re grabbing coffee from a hole-in-the-wall café that serves the best flat white you’ve ever had, the next you’re browsing vintage stores or checking out street art that changes weekly. The hotel’s location scored a 9.7 from recent guests, and couples especially seem to love it here. There’s parking right at the hotel too, which is actually a big deal in this part of town where finding a spot can be a nightmare. The surrounding laneways are filled with independent boutiques, galleries, and some of the city’s most innovative dining experiences.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was this beautiful blend of industrial chic and luxury comfort. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in all that gorgeous Melbourne light, and the attention to detail is remarkable — from the locally-sourced toiletries to the custom furniture that somehow manages to feel both modern and timeless. The beds are ridiculously comfortable (I’m talking sink-in-and-never-leave comfortable), and the tech integration is seamless without being overwhelming. Each space has been carefully curated to enhance your stay while maintaining the hotel’s distinctive aesthetic.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant deserves its own mention — the chef clearly understands Melbourne’s food obsession and delivers accordingly. Breakfast features local produce, and dinner showcases modern Australian cuisine with subtle international influences. The spa facilities are understated luxury at its finest, offering treatments that incorporate native Australian ingredients. What I really appreciated was how everything felt authentic rather than trying too hard to impress. The kitchen facilities in select suites allow guests to prepare their own meals if desired, adding another layer of flexibility.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.6 rating isn’t just numbers — it reflects how this place gets the details right. The staff genuinely know the neighborhood and can point you toward hidden gems you’d never find otherwise. Whether you want the best laneway bar (there are several within walking distance) or need directions to the Royal Exhibition Building, they’ve got you covered. It’s luxury hospitality that feels personal rather than corporate, and in a city like Melbourne where authenticity matters, that makes all the difference. This is where sophisticated travelers choose to stay.

We had such a wonderful stay in this hotel.
The bed is very comfortable. Although the room might seem a bit small, everything is made to be super practical.
The bonus was the grounded coffee and the French press in the room. Such a great idea!
And, thank you to the staff, everyone was so lovely.Sarah from Canada (8/10)
Great location: access to transit, restaurants and bars. At first I wasn’t sure the area was safe but it was, very cool area (Fitzroy).

Amazing location, beautiful building- rooms are teeny tiny, but bearable if you are only sleeping in the room.

The staff were fantastic, the views from the roof top were incredible, and the location is on point, food and drink equally fantastic. Will be staying here again next time we visit Melbourne.

Beautiful hotel in a fun, vibrant (but still quiet) location. I had the best time here and will be coming back! Shout out to the staff who were all so friendly and helpful.
Mercy from Australia (9/10)
Beautiful Roof top balcony with a bar, which is only available to guests. Spacious rooms and big comfy beds and blankets with plenty of storage/moving space and natural light. Big tv with streaming capabilities. Super quiet, never heard the neighboring guests. Plenty of good breakfast lunch and dinner options in the area, with particularly good coffee and pastry options. Two tram lines that connect seamlessly with the express trams servicing the AusGP track.
