First Impressions
Walking into ‘The York’ Industrial Warehouse Chic on the Yarra, you immediately get what they’re going for with that name. This four-star property in Melbourne‘s Southbank really does feel like someone took an old warehouse and transformed it into something pretty special. The exposed brick, steel beams, and floor-to-ceiling windows create this urban loft vibe that’s honestly quite striking. You know what I love most? The way natural light floods through those massive windows — it makes the whole space feel alive, especially when you catch glimpses of the Yarra River just outside.
Location Perfection
I mean, you really can’t ask for a better spot in Melbourne. Southbank puts you right in the thick of everything — Federation Square is literally across the river, and you can walk to Flinders Street Station in about ten minutes. The location score of 9.5 isn’t just marketing fluff; it’s actually earned. What’s brilliant is that despite being so central, the apartment feels like a peaceful retreat when you’re inside. Plus, having free private parking on-site is honestly a game-changer in this part of town — trust me, you’ll appreciate not circling blocks looking for a spot.
The Space Itself
The industrial chic theme carries through beautifully in each unit. My room had this perfect balance of raw warehouse elements and modern comfort that could’ve easily gone wrong but didn’t. The kitchen setup is actually quite functional — not just for show like some boutique places. I found myself making coffee there each morning, looking out at the Yarra while the city slowly woke up. The furnishings strike that sweet spot between stylish and livable, though I’d say the lighting could be a touch warmer in the evenings.
River Views and Atmosphere
Here’s the thing about Southbank — it transforms completely from day to night, and this place gives you front-row seats to watch it happen. During the day, you’ve got joggers along the river path and families wandering toward the arts precinct. Come evening, the whole area lights up with diners heading to Crown or catching shows at the theatre district. The warehouse windows frame it all perfectly, making you feel connected to Melbourne’s rhythm without being overwhelmed by it. It’s particularly romantic in the evenings — no wonder couples rate this place so highly.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both distinctly Melbourne and genuinely comfortable. You’re not just staying somewhere with good access to the city; you’re staying in a space that actually reflects Melbourne’s character — that blend of industrial heritage and contemporary culture. The Yarra location means you can walk along the river when you need to clear your head, or pop across to the CBD when you want to dive into the urban energy. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself lingering an extra hour in the morning, just because the space and the views make you want to savor the moment a bit longer.

Location and quirky decor
Spacious apartment with plenty of personality, The York is beautifully appointed and well decorated. Located in a quiet complex that is still very close to everything Southbank has to offer. Breakfast downstairs was delicious too!
