Tranquil 1B Southbank apt next to Garden #BO06
I remember pulling up to 25 Coventry Street in Southbank after a long drive from the airport – honestly, if you're coming in on a flight, grab a tram from Flinders Street Station; it's way easier than dealing with the CBD traffic, especially during peak hours when everyone's rushing home from work.
I remember pulling up to 25 Coventry Street in Southbank after a long drive from the airport – honestly, if you’re coming in on a flight, grab a tram from Flinders Street Station; it’s way easier than dealing with the CBD traffic, especially during peak hours when everyone’s rushing home from work. The Tranquil 1B apartment – yeah, it’s got that quirky name with the #BO06 tag, like it’s part of some boutique collection – sits right there in the heart of Southbank, tucked away just a stone’s throw from the Yarra River and the edge of the Royal Botanic Gardens. I mean, you step out the door and you’re basically inhaling that fresh, green scent from the gardens, mixed with the faint coffee aroma wafting from those little cafes on St Kilda Road. Check-in was a breeze; it’s one of those self-service deals with a code sent to your phone – no front desk drama, which is a godsend if you’re jet-lagged and just want to flop. The place itself? It’s a cozy one-bedroom setup, four-star vibes without feeling stuffy. The living area has these big windows overlooking the greenery – well, sort of, you get glimpses of the gardens through the buildings, but on a clear morning, the light filters in all golden and makes the wooden floors glow. I appreciated the little kitchenette; stocked with basics like a Nespresso machine (pods included, thank goodness), and the bed was plush, with those crisp white sheets that actually smell clean, not like some over-perfumed hotel chain.
What really sold me on this spot, though, was how it balances that tranquil name with the buzz of Melbourne life – you know, Southbank’s got that mix of artsy energy from the nearby NGV (National Gallery of Victoria, just a 10-minute stroll across the river) and the casino crowds at Crown, but this apartment feels like a quiet retreat. I spent an afternoon wandering down to the river promenade, grabbing a flat white at one of those pop-up spots on South Wharf, and it was dead easy to hop on a tram to Queen Victoria Market for some fresh produce – beats lugging groceries in a cab. Parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’ve got a car; there’s street spots on Coventry, but they’re metered and fill up fast during events at the MCG (which is only about a 20-minute walk away, by the way, perfect for footy season). Noise-wise, it’s not bad – you hear the occasional tram rumble or late-night revelers from the bars on Clarendon Street, but the double-glazed windows keep it mellow inside. Oh, and the bathroom’s got this rainfall shower that honestly feels like a spa after a day exploring; the hot water pressure is spot-on, no weird fluctuations like in some older buildings around here. I did notice the Wi-Fi could be patchy during evenings – probably from all the apartments sharing the network – but for streaming a quick show on the smart TV, it held up fine.
All in all, if you’re looking for a base in Melbourne that’s not some impersonal high-rise but feels lived-in and authentic, this place nails it with an 8.7 rating that I’d say is well-deserved. It’s ideal for solo travelers or couples who want to dip into the city’s vibe without the chaos – think quiet evenings with a view of the twinkling city lights, or easy access to hidden gems like the laneway eateries off Flinders Lane. Sure, it’s not perfect; the building’s elevator can be slow during busy times, and if you’re here in summer, the air-con works overtime against the humidity. But honestly, for the price and that next-to-the-garden perk, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – just time your stay for spring when the gardens are blooming and the crowds aren’t overwhelming yet. You won’t regret it.
To book a hotel in Melbourne during Grand Prix week, visitors plan ahead to balance trackside thrills with Yarra River sunsets.

Having to give key back to IGA easier to leave in the room which we ended up doing.
Only one set of towels would have liked more and set for the pool.
No milk for tea or coffee.
Would have liked a welcome Information book about the place how to get to the pool, where to put the rubbish, trams to catch to town and to other areas and things to do in Melbourne.
Would have liked ealier check in times.
Fridge kept moving might need to find a better way to stop it from moving around in the alcove, also was tricky to open the cupboard door that covered the fridge a to navigate the fridge door that opened the opposite way. Should change so the doors open the same way.
Drain in the shower kept moving needs to be fixed.
Needs fan in the bed room as the air conditioner doesn't get ino the room was a little stuffy.
Bed was smaller than I expected.
