Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the tram at the Collins Street stop – you know, right where it intersects with Queen Street, amid all those grand old banks and boutiques – and spotting the Treasury on Collins for the first time. It’s tucked into this stunning heritage building from the 1800s, originally some kind of bank or treasury office, I think, which gives it that solid, almost regal vibe without feeling stuffy. Honestly, arriving in the middle of a bustling weekday afternoon, with suits rushing by and the faint smell of fresh coffee drifting from the laneways nearby, it felt like I’d stumbled into a hidden gem in Melbourne’s CBD. Check-in was a breeze – the staff were super friendly, chatting about the best spots for dumplings in Chinatown (just a five-minute walk up Little Bourke Street, by the way) – but fair warning, if you’re driving, parking’s a bit of a hassle here; they offer valet, but it’s pricey, and street spots vanish during peak hours. I mean, that’s city life for you, right? The lobby has this cozy, intimate feel with polished marble floors that echo a little when you walk in, and there’s always a whiff of whatever herbal tea they’re brewing at the bar – sort of calming after dodging tourists on the sidewalk.
What really won me over, though, was how they’ve blended the old with the new in the rooms. Mine was on the third floor, overlooking Collins Street, with these massive sash windows that let in the golden afternoon light – and yeah, you can hear the occasional tram bell clanging below, but it’s more charming than annoying, especially at night when the city quiets down (well, except during footy season when crowds spill out from Fed Square, a quick stroll away across the Yarra). The bed was ridiculously comfortable, like sinking into a cloud after a day exploring the graffiti-covered alleys of Hosier Lane, and they stock the mini-bar with local goodies – think Gippsland cheeses and craft beers from nearby breweries. Breakfast in their little cafe downstairs isn’t massive, but it’s solid: fresh croissants and avo on toast that hits the spot, though I wish they’d extend the hours past 10 a.m. on weekends. Oh, and the bathrooms? Spacious, with rain showers that make you linger – a nice touch after hiking up to the Queen Victoria Market for some morning bargains. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Melbourne – close enough to hop on a tram to St Kilda Beach or wander to the NGV for some art – this place nails it without the over-the-top luxury price tag (though it’s not cheap, mind you). I’d recommend it for couples or solo travelers who want that mix of history and convenience, especially in spring when the jacarandas are blooming along the streets. You know what? Next time I’m in town, I’m booking again – it’s just got that effortless charm that sticks with you.

Great location in the city, spacious comfortable room with practical extras such as kitchen and a washing machine. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast, complimentary glass of wine in the bar each afternoon. Was a great stay.
What could be improved: Loved it all.Superb – Shane from Australia – 2 July 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast and the guest level.
What could be improved: Parking isn't great.Amazing experience. – Shahad from Australia – 18 June 2025 (10/10)
Entrance through a restaurant or a narrow way does not justify the ambience of the hotel. The room was so good i can’t explain. I wish i had taken a photo. Me and my wife stayed in Melbourne two nights for work. One night was in Crowne Hotel by IHG and the next was at this hotel. We personally liked ther overall experience at this hotel more than the Crown.
What could be improved: NAA warm, memorable stay with great service, a few unexpected adventures, and lots of laughs! – Andy from Singapore – 16 June 2025 (10/10)
My wife and I had a really lovely time staying at Treasury on Collins. From start to end, the experience was great, the room was cosy and well set up, and the staff were all super friendly and helpful. We really felt taken care of during our stay.
One part that gave us a good laugh was the towel situation. We asked for bath towels, but somehow ended up with a bunch of bath mats instead. It was quite amusing to see so many of them lined up, clearly meant for the bathroom floor, but hey, it made for a fun story.
We also had a little “adventure” with the lift, one evening it wasn’t working and we had to climb seven flights of stairs (which made me realise I need to work on my fitness!). When the lift came back on, we thought all was fine… until it suddenly stopped while we were inside. That gave us a mini heart attack, but thankfully a technician was nearby and got us out quickly.
Other than those two things, everything else was smooth and enjoyable. Great location, clean rooms, comfy bed, just an overall nice vibe.
Really appreciate all the staff who were there during our stay. Would totally come back again. Thank you for making it such a pleasant experience!
What could be improved: The only small downside was the lift; it stopped briefly while we were inside, which was a bit scary at the time! Thankfully, the technician was quick to assist. It would also be great if there were more lifts available, or perhaps a guest-only lift, especially after climbing seven flights of stairs earlier that day (we got our cardio in!).
Also, having a private car park for hotel guests would be a wonderful addition. Lugging our luggage across a fair distance was a bit exhausting, maybe just for us, haha! However, these are just minor issues. Everything else was smooth and enjoyable.Exceptional – Melinda from Australia – 15 June 2025 (10/10)
Location was excellent and staff very accommodating.
Fantastic stay with a luxerious and very comfortable stay in a beautiful building. We love to come back – Ilse from Australia – 15 June 2025 (9/10)
Very nice architecture and finishes , beautiful spacious luxerious room. We loved the free drinks, treats, fruit and complemantary glass of wine, it felt so welcoming and we felt so spoiled. Extremely helpful and friendly staff.
What could be improved: The mezzanine was very noisy due to a party but we were allowed to bring our drinks etc upstairs to our beautiful and quiet roomgreat place – Petra from Netherlands – 13 June 2025 (9/10)
large room, washing machine, location excellent
A great place to relax – it felt like home. – Dennis from Australia – 9 June 2025 (10/10)
The extras made our stay value for money. A great breakfast, snacks, “wine down”. And the staff were friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Nothing not to like
