Hotel Description
You know, when I first rolled up to the Unparalleled City Convenience 2BR apt on Franklin Street – that’s right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, just a stone’s throw from the Queen Victoria Market – I was honestly relieved about the free parking spot. Parking in this part of town can be a nightmare, especially if you’re coming in from the airport or dodging the trams on Elizabeth Street. I mean, it’s slotted right there in the building, no fussing with meters or those pricey underground lots. The place is on the quieter end of Franklin, away from the main hustle, but still close enough that you can wander over to the market for fresh sourdough and coffee – I grabbed some from that little stall with the killer flat whites, you know the one.
Stepping inside, it’s this spacious two-bedroom setup that feels more like a mate’s flat than some sterile hotel room. The living area opens up with these big windows overlooking the city – well, sort of overlooking, depending on the floor, but mine had a peek at Flagstaff Gardens, which is perfect for a morning jog if you’re into that (I’m not, but the green space is a nice breather from all the concrete). The kitchen’s fully kitted out – stainless steel appliances, even a dishwasher, which came in handy after I picked up some prawns from the market and threw together a quick barbie-style dinner on the balcony. Honestly, the beds are comfy as, with that crisp linen smell that just screams fresh sheets, and the bathroom’s got decent water pressure, none of that dribbly shower nonsense you sometimes get in older buildings. It’s a 4-star spot, but the rating’s a solid 10 in my book for how it nails the practical stuff – like the in-unit washer-dryer, which saved me from lugging clothes to a laundromat down on Lonsdale Street. Oh, and check-in was a breeze; it’s one of those keyless entry deals via an app, but they email you clear instructions – no waiting around in a lobby or anything.
That said, it’s still city living, so expect a bit of tram clang and street noise during rush hour – I mean, Franklin’s not exactly a back alley, but it quiets down nicely after dark, especially mid-week when the office crowds thin out. If you’re here in summer, crank the AC; Melbourne’s heatwaves can sneak up on you. But overall, if you’re traveling with family or just want a home base without the hotel vibe, this place is gold. It’s got that effortless access to everything – hop on a tram to the Yarra River or stroll to the cafes on Hardware Lane – and you won’t blow your budget on parking fees. I’d book it again in a heartbeat, especially for a longer stay when you actually want to live like a local rather than just pass through.
