Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the Urban Artistry Loft kind of by accident last summer – I was in Melbourne for a quick getaway, dodging the peak tourist crush around December, and needed something that felt less like a sterile chain hotel and more like crashing at a creative friend’s pad. Tucked away on the upper floors of a building right in the thick of the CBD, at postcode 3000, it’s basically hovering above the chaos of Collins Street. I mean, you step out the door and you’re smack in the middle of those iconic laneways – think Degraves Street with its buzzing cafes and street art – but up there, it’s this surprisingly serene escape. Checking in was a breeze; the staff (mostly locals with that laid-back Aussie vibe) handed over a keycard with a quick chat about the best nearby spots for brekkie, like the hidden gem coffee roastery on Little Collins that’s always packed with office workers by 8 AM. Honestly, the elevator ride up feels like ascending from the tram-clanging streets below – you can hear the faint ding-dong of the number 35 rattling by – to this airy loft space that smells faintly of fresh eucalyptus from the lobby diffuser.
What really hooked me was how the place lives up to its name – it’s all about that urban artistry thing, with exposed brick walls splashed with local murals (one even nods to the street artists down in Hosier Lane, which is just a 10-minute stroll away). My room – well, suite, I guess – had these massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Yarra River, and at dusk, the city lights twinkled like something out of a postcard, though fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional hum of late-night revelers from the bars on Flinders Lane might sneak in (nothing earplugs couldn’t fix). The bed was plush, with those high-thread-count sheets that make you want to hit snooze forever, and there’s a little kitchenette stocked with basics – I whipped up a quick pasta using herbs from the Queen Victoria Market, which is an easy walk or tram hop north. It’s not massive, sort of compact in that city-loft way, but that’s part of the charm; it forces you to cozy up and actually unwind. Oh, and parking? Forget it if you’re driving – the CBD’s a nightmare for spots, so I ditched the car at a nearby multi-story on Spencer Street and relied on the free tram zone, which loops right around the area.
All in all, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Melbourne’s vibe without getting swallowed by it – you know, popping out for dumplings in Chinatown or catching a show at the Arts Centre, then retreating to your own arty haven – this place is a winner. It’s got that 4-star polish with a genuine 9-out-of-10 feel from real stays like mine, minus the over-the-top luxury fluff. Sure, the Wi-Fi dipped a bit during peak hours (blame the bustling neighborhood), but that’s Melbourne for you – alive and a tad unpredictable. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the rates dip and the city’s energy is just right.

Location was fantastic. Eateries all around us, and tram stop just outside, couldn't ask for a better location. Owners were very helpful as well, and apartment was lovely – had everything we needed plus more. Very nicely decorated and comfortable.
