Urban Eden in South Yarra
I remember pulling up to Urban Eden on Claremont Street last spring – you know, that quiet little stretch in South Yarra that's tucked away from the main buzz but still feels like you're right in the thick of Melbourne's vibe.
I remember pulling up to Urban Eden on Claremont Street last spring – you know, that quiet little stretch in South Yarra that’s tucked away from the main buzz but still feels like you’re right in the thick of Melbourne’s vibe. It’s this modern boutique spot, sort of hidden behind those classic Victorian terraces, and honestly, finding parking was a breeze compared to the nightmare on Toorak Road just a block over. I mean, we lucked out with a spot right out front, no circling for ages like you do in the CBD. Walking in, the lobby hit me with this fresh, eucalyptus-scented air – they must diffuse something local, because it smelled just like a walk through the Botanic Gardens nearby. Check-in was quick and friendly; the staff chatted about the best time to hit the Prahran Market (early mornings on weekends, apparently, to beat the crowds), which made me feel like I was crashing at a mate’s place rather than some sterile hotel. Oh, and there’s this little courtyard out back with hanging plants and comfy seats – perfect for nursing a coffee while listening to the distant tram rattles from Chapel Street.
What really won me over, though, was how the rooms nailed that urban oasis thing without trying too hard. Ours was on the second floor, overlooking the street – well, it was mostly quiet, except for the occasional delivery scooter buzzing by in the evenings, but nothing that kept us up. The bed was ridiculously plush, like sinking into a cloud after a day trekking around the Yarra River paths, and they had these textured linen sheets that felt cool against your skin even in Melbourne’s unpredictable heat. Breakfast in the on-site cafe was a highlight – think smashed avo on sourdough from local bakers, with coffee that’s actually decent, not the burnt stuff you get at chain spots. You know what, the rooftop terrace is a gem, especially at sunset when the city skyline peeks through; we spent an evening up there with a bottle of Yarra Valley wine, chatting away while the air cooled off. It’s not massive, so it can get a bit crowded during peak season like summer festivals, but that’s Melbourne for you – everything ramps up then. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times in the afternoon, probably from everyone streaming, but it sorted itself out quick enough.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically South Yarra – close enough to wander over to the funky boutiques on Chapel or grab dumplings in nearby Windsor without dealing with the tourist hordes – Urban Eden’s a solid choice. It’s got that 4-star polish with an 8.9 rating that actually holds up, you know? I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when it’s quieter and you can really soak in the neighborhood’s laid-back charm. Just pack light layers – the weather here flips faster than you can say “flat white.”
Melbourne hotels keep food lovers close to Queen Victoria Market, hidden cocktail dens, and rooftop beer gardens.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional Location, comfy beds, all the amenities we needed, nice and modern
What could be improved: Nearly all of the storage space was used for linen etc so we couldn’t unpack. Had some technical issues with the TV.
A beautiful apartment next to train station and tram stops. Well equipped and like home from home The apartment was like home from home. Nice to come back to in the evening and relax.
What could be improved: Just small things but I couldn’t get Netflix working and the drier outside is needing replaced.
Very enjoyable and close to all amenities Neat and compact with everything I needed in it
What could be improved: Nothing
Great stay I must say that Danny, the host, was very friendly and accommodating.
The apartment is in great shape and very clean.
I will try to stay there whenever I visit Melbourne.
Highly recommended accommodation.
Great accom overall. Location was amazing.
Great facilities.
What could be improved: 2nd bedroom had tiny beds and no window.
Comfortable stay Great location for what we needed to do, was in between 2 locations we ventured to (the MCG & Junction Oval), we used Trams to get around. South Yarra train station is just around the corner. Good choice of food around, a couple of IGA's, fast food and restaurants.
Good sized bedrooms with 2 bathrooms, TV and air-conditioning, a big balcony, all you really need for a short stay.
Home away from home. Great communication with check in & check out procedures and almost immediate responses throughout our stay to questions.
Big balcony with sliding door from main bedroom and living room, 2 bathrooms, well appointed kitchen with full sized fridge, microwave, 4 x hotplates, kettle, 4 slice toaster……made cooking at home a breeze.
Best thing was main bed. I have a bad back and the mattress was perfect. Very firm but super comfy too. I slept better than I do at home.
Great location as e writhing is a short walk away (restaurants, take away, supermarkets, public transport) & only a short train trip to Melbourne city centre.
What could be improved: Would have preferred screens on the sliding doors leading to the balcony & fans in bedrooms so we could close doors for privacy at night as it was very hot during our stay but these were minor issues as aircon cooled the whole apartment quickly with bedroom doors open.
Superb Very nice modern apartment with car parking a bonus for a city visit. Very comfortable beds and was very clean. The location is very good for public transport with a team stop a couple of minutes away as is South Yarra railway station.
What could be improved: Nothing really. The car parking is via a car lift to underground parking and there is a length as well as height restriction so a massive oversized SUV won’t fit.
Very happy with location. Apartment had everything we needed. Very happy with our choice. Clean and modern
What could be improved: Initially bit of confusion - are we at the right location? As name of apartment building different to that stated in booking
Very satisfied and highly recommend the property, N/A
What could be improved: Everything was excellent. Good location. Close to public transport. Very good for shopping and lots of eating choices.
