Veriu Collingwood Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Veriu Collingwood on Johnston Street, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical hotel. The building has this sleek, modern edge that somehow fits perfectly into Melbourne’s eclectic inner-north vibe. I mean, Collingwood has always been this interesting mix of industrial heritage and contemporary cool, and this five-star property captures that balance beautifully. The entrance feels understated but sophisticated — you know you’re somewhere special without all the flashy marble and gold that some luxury hotels throw at you.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Honestly, the location is what really sets this place apart. You’re right in the heart of one of Melbourne’s most vibrant neighborhoods, with Smith Street’s legendary food scene literally around the corner. I’ve stayed in plenty of city hotels where you feel disconnected from the real Melbourne, but here you’re actually living like a local. The trams run frequently down Johnston Street, so getting into the CBD takes maybe fifteen minutes, but you’ve also got some of the city’s best cafes, bars, and restaurants within walking distance. Couples seem to absolutely love this spot — and I can see why, because there’s something romantic about exploring these tree-lined streets together.
The Room Experience
The room design is where Veriu really shows its personality. Everything feels carefully considered but not overthought — clean lines, quality materials, and these little touches that make you feel at home rather than like you’re camping out in a sterile box. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m pretty picky about this), and the bathrooms have that spa-like quality without being pretentious about it. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything felt, despite being on a fairly busy street. The soundproofing is excellent, which honestly surprised me given how lively the area can get, especially on weekends.
Practical Perks
One thing that immediately impressed me was the parking situation — they actually have private parking on-site, which is basically gold in this part of Melbourne. Anyone who’s tried to find a park in Collingwood on a Saturday night knows what a relief this is. The staff genuinely seem to know the area well too, so when you ask for recommendations, you get real insights rather than the usual tourist trap suggestions. They pointed me toward a little wine bar I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of those perfect Melbourne discoveries.
Why Guests Love It
What really works about this place is how it manages to feel both luxurious and authentic. You’re not isolated in some hotel bubble — you’re actually experiencing Melbourne the way locals do, just with really nice sheets and excellent service. The combination of that prime Collingwood location, thoughtful design, and genuine hospitality creates something pretty special. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out, because you know you’ve found that sweet spot between comfort and character that’s surprisingly hard to come by.

Peter from United Kingdom (9/10)
Really lovely hotel, great location, excellent facilities (including a washing machine which I was not expecting but was very welcome 2 weeks in to a 4 week holiday!), and really easy out of hours check in.

We stayed here because friends lived nearby. Collingwood is a transitional neighborhood so some amenities were not available. This apartment style hotel is more appropriate for longer stays. The kitchenette was good. Not many restaurants or breakfast places nearby. (Some good bakeries) Most tourists would probably enjoy a hotel closer to central downtown and art and entertainment venues. Staff was helpful.

Good location quick tram ride to the city, interesting bohemian street life, compact rooms but had all you need – oven, microwave, large fridge, DW, cooktop, washing machine and dryer, AC, opening doors, small balcony, free bikes, nice rooftop pool, spa, nice toiletries, DW powder, detergent, washing powder, friendly staff.
