Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to View Melbourne on St Kilda Road – you know, that wide, tree-lined boulevard that cuts right through the edge of the city, with trams rattling by every few minutes. It’s at 562, smack in the middle of that stretch where the high-rises start giving way to the greener bits near Albert Park. Honestly, arriving after a long flight from Sydney, I was knackered, but the check-in was a breeze – no fuss, just a friendly bloke at the desk who sorted my room key in under five minutes and even tipped me off about the best spot for a flat white nearby (turns out it’s that little cafe on Queens Road, hidden behind the park). The lobby’s got this modern vibe, all sleek lines and big windows letting in that crisp Melbourne light, but it’s not overly flashy – more like a comfortable spot to flop down with a book while you wait for your mates. Oh, and parking? Well, they have an underground lot, but it fills up quick during peak times like the Grand Prix season in March, so I’d book a spot ahead if you’re driving. The place smells faintly of fresh linen and whatever they’re brewing in the on-site restaurant – nothing overpowering, just welcoming.
What really sold me on View Melbourne, though – and it’s a solid 4.5-star joint with an 8.1 rating that feels about right – is how it balances that urban buzz with some genuine downtime. My room on the higher floors overlooked the lake in Albert Park, which was magic at sunset; you could hear the distant hum of joggers and cyclists on the paths below, but the double-glazed windows kept the noise out nicely (thank goodness, because St Kilda Road can get lively with traffic). The bed was plush, like sinking into a cloud – Egyptian cotton sheets, I think – and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger a bit too long. They’ve got a gym that’s actually decent, with views over the road, and the breakfast spread in the mornings is no joke: fresh avo on toast, proper bacon, and those little pots of yogurt that taste like they’re from a local farm (pro tip: go early to avoid the conference crowd that piles in around 8am). It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the corners of the building, and rooms facing the road might pick up a tram ding or two if you’re a light sleeper – but for the price, it’s way better than some of the stuffy CBD hotels. Plus, you’re a quick tram ride from the Royal Botanic Gardens or even St Kilda Beach for a sunset walk; I mean, who needs a car when the 3a line stops basically at your doorstep?
All in all, if you’re hitting Melbourne for a mix of city vibes and some chill time – say, during the milder months from October to April when the weather’s not trying to roast or freeze you – View Melbourne’s a smart pick. It’s got that authentic Melburnian feel without the pretension, and honestly, after a few days there, I felt like a local sneaking back for my afternoon coffee run. Sure, it might not be the cheapest option on the strip, but for the views, the comfort, and that easy access to spots like Federation Square (just a 10-minute tram jaunt north), it’s worth it. I’d go back in a heartbeat – well, as long as I remember to pack earplugs for those early-morning trams.

Located in a beautiful and very green part of Melbourne, my Mum and I both really enjoyed our one night stay. Upon check-in, we realised that we had been given a free upgrade to a family suite rather than the room I had booked which was a lovely surprise and very comfortable. The room was nice and clean, spacious and very comfortable.

Great location right on tram line .Very comfortable bed. Fairly spacious room. First room the door didn't latch or lock.. Fortunately we discovered that and we were moved to another room. Although a huge bed there was only one armchair. And not much table space so in room dining would have been awkward.
