Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Villa Casa in Richmond – you know, that vibrant pocket of Melbourne just a stone’s throw from the Yarra River – and thinking, wow, this place actually lives up to its “perfect getaway” tag without trying too hard. It’s tucked away on a quieter side street off Bridge Road, which is handy because Bridge is always buzzing with those trendy cafes and vintage shops that locals flock to on weekends. Honestly, finding parking in this area can be a nightmare, especially during footy season when everyone’s heading to the MCG (it’s only about a 15-minute walk away, by the way), but this spot comes with two dedicated car spots – a godsend if you’re road-tripping from the city or beyond. Check-in was a breeze; it’s one of those self-service deals with a key code, but they email you everything ahead of time, so no fumbling around in the dark if you arrive late. Stepping inside, the designer vibe hit me right away – think sleek, modern lines with those Scandi-inspired touches like soft wool throws and polished concrete floors that feel cool underfoot on a warm Melbourne afternoon. The three bedrooms are spacious enough for a family or a group of friends, and the beds? Super comfy, with that crisp linen smell that makes you want to dive right in after a day exploring.

What really sets Villa Casa apart, though – and I mean this from staying there during a drizzly spring week – is how it blends that homey apartment feel with just the right amount of luxury for a 4-star spot. The kitchen’s fully kitted out (hello, Nespresso machine and those fancy appliances that actually work), so whipping up brekkie with fresh produce from the nearby Victoria Market is easy – it’s only a quick tram ride down Swan Street, which runs parallel and has that old-school Melbourne charm with its street art and hidden bars. The living area opens up to a little balcony where you can sip your coffee and listen to the distant hum of the city, maybe catch a whiff of eucalyptus from the parks along the river. Noise-wise, it’s pretty peaceful for Richmond; sure, you might hear the occasional tram ding or weekend revelers from the pubs on Church Street, but it quiets down by midnight – well, most nights anyway. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty if everyone’s streaming at once, but that’s Melbourne apartments for you; nothing a quick reset didn’t fix. And the rating’s an 8 for good reason – it’s not over-the-top fancy, but it nails the essentials like clean bathrooms with those rain showers that make you linger a bit longer.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels like your own stylish pad in one of Melbourne’s coolest suburbs, Villa Casa is it. It’s perfect for couples wanting a romantic base or families dodging the CBD crowds – especially in summer when Richmond’s riverside paths are ideal for bike rides or picnics. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a little secret; you know, the kind of place you’d recommend to mates over a flat white at a local joint. Just book ahead during events like the Australian Open – it fills up fast, and trust me, you won’t want to miss out.

Reviews

  • Great solution for a stylish stay in Melbourne – Ricky from New Zealand – 9 August 2024 (8/10)

awesome position , 2 minutes from Burnley station from which you are within easy reach to anywhere in Melbourne
the style and decor of the apartment are top notch

What could be improved: was quite hard to checkin outside of the "allowed" checkin times . also required an extra of 44$
the kitchenware features are a bit slim – could be improved , as well as the cleanliness of hidden spots
the TV was not 100% working and probably due to the poor wi-fi

  • Disappointed – Victoria from Australia – 7 February 2025 (6/10)

In a good location, close to tram. Beds were comfortable although the second and third bedrooms are quite small.

What could be improved: Grinding concrete outside the door every one of the five days we were there with tools and cords all over the walkways. Property needs a little tlc – eg fallen picture on the floor that had been put up with black tape, stains on carpets. Couch not comfortable, kitchen could do with a few extras. Annoying process of proving my existence with ID twice and being asked to read and affirm ‘house rules’ which were on Airbnb not bookings.com, and organised a second set of keys which when we reminded bespoke were not available. I wouldn’t stay again because of all these issues and was disappointed at $500 a night.

  • Exceptional – Denise from Australia – 25 October 2024 (10/10)
