Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to the Waterfront 1BR Docklands Apt on Collins Street – that’s 883 Collins, right in the heart of Docklands – I was honestly a bit skeptical. Melbourne’s Docklands can feel like this shiny, modern extension of the CBD, all glass towers and waterfront promenades, but it’s not always as lively as you’d hope, especially on quieter weekdays. But stepping into this place? It totally won me over. The check-in was a breeze – self-service with a code they emailed ahead, no fussing with front desks or waiting around, which is a godsend after a long flight into Tullamarine. And get this, the free parking spot in the building’s secure garage? That’s gold in Melbourne, where street parking is a nightmare and costs an arm and a leg. I mean, I parked my rental right there and didn’t think twice about it the whole stay.
What really sets this apartment apart – it’s a proper one-bedroom, not some cramped hotel room – is that killer waterfront vibe. You’re literally steps from the Yarra River, with views out over the docks where boats bob around in the mornings, and if you’re lucky, you catch that salty bay breeze mixing with the coffee smells from nearby cafes like Cargo or that little spot on Lorimer Street. I spent my first evening just chilling on the balcony (yeah, it has one, nothing fancy but functional), watching the sun dip behind the Bolte Bridge – you know, that massive one linking the city to the west. Inside, it’s got this clean, modern setup: a full kitchen with decent appliances (the dishwasher actually worked without drama), a comfy queen bed that didn’t leave me with a sore back, and a living area big enough to spread out with your laptop or whatever. Oh, and the bathroom’s got that rainfall shower head – sort of a nice touch after wandering around. Noise-wise, it’s pretty quiet for Docklands; you might hear some tram rattles from the lines on Collins or Harbour Esplanade, but nothing that kept me up, especially since it dies down after 10 PM. Well, except maybe during AFL season when Marvel Stadium’s buzzing nearby – pack earplugs if you’re sensitive.
Honestly, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want that balance of city access without the full-on chaos of Bourke Street or Flinders Lane, this spot’s a smart pick. It’s a quick walk or free tram ride into the CBD – I hopped on the 70 or 75 and was at Federation Square in under 10 minutes. Perfect for solo travelers or couples who like cooking their own brekkie (there’s a Woolies supermarket just down the road on Merchant Street), and in summer, when Docklands comes alive with events and outdoor dining, it’s even better. Sure, it could use a few more homey touches like extra throw pillows or better Wi-Fi speed during peak hours, but for a 4-star rated place scoring a solid 9, it’s authentic value. I’d book it again in a heartbeat – beats those soulless chain hotels hands down.

Lovely secure building. Great location and the apartment is well equipped and clean. Host was always available.
Free tram outside the door and supermarket across the road. Easy access to Southbank which is full of bars and restaurants overlooking the river. I would definitely recommend staying here.A very nice place to stay – would definitely stay again next time we're in Melbourne – Graeme from Australia – 13 May 2025 (8/10)
Great location, easy access to parking, nice view.
What could be improved: Reading the codes on the tumblers to access key was extremely difficult due to their small size and the poor lighting as we arrived after dark.
Lack of dishes and cutlery – only one large dinner plate.
