Waterfront apt Mel’s Collins Street FREE PARKING#CWG Overview
I remember pulling up to the Waterfront Apt Mel’s on Collins Street – you know, right there in Docklands, where the city starts to bleed into that sleek harbor vibe. It’s at 915 Collins, smack in the middle of all those glassy high-rises that popped up after the big redevelopment, and honestly, finding free parking in Melbourne? That’s like striking gold, especially if you’re driving in from the airport or out west. I mean, I parked my rental right there without the usual headache of circling blocks or coughing up extra fees – the spot’s included, which saved me a ton during my week-long stay last spring. The building itself has this modern, no-fuss feel; check-in was a breeze through the app, though I did have to buzz security because the lobby door sticks a bit when it’s windy (and Docklands gets gusty, let me tell you, with that Yarra River breeze whipping through). Stepping into the apartment, it hit me – spacious, like a proper home away from home, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water. The scent of fresh linen mixed with that faint salty harbor air, and yeah, it felt authentic, not some sterile hotel chain setup.
What really sold me was how it balances that waterfront chill with easy access to the action. You’re literally steps from the free City Circle tram that zips you over to the CBD – think Federation Square or the Queen Vic Market in under 10 minutes, without dealing with the Bourke Street crowds right outside your door. I spent mornings jogging along the promenade towards Marvel Stadium (it’s Etihad to us old-timers, but whatever), grabbing coffee at one of those little cafes on Harbour Esplanade – they’re hidden gems, with baristas who actually know how to pull a flat white without the tourist markup. The apt itself is kitted out nicely for a 4-star spot; full kitchen meant I could whip up brekkie from fresh produce I picked up nearby, and the bed was comfy enough that I slept through the occasional tram rumble – well, mostly, though if you’re a light sleeper, earplugs might help during peak hours. It’s got that lived-in touch, like the soft throw blankets on the couch and a balcony where you can sip wine watching the boats bob (pro tip: avoid summer evenings if you hate mozzies, but autumn’s perfect, crisp and quiet). Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s solid – streamed footy games without a hitch, which is clutch if you’re catching an AFL match at the stadium.
All in all, if you’re after something that feels personal and practical without breaking the bank – rating’s an 8.4 for a reason, I’d say it’s spot-on – this place delivers. It’s not flawless; the area can feel a tad isolated on rainy nights when Docklands empties out, and construction noise from the ongoing builds nearby might creep in during the day (Melbourne’s always evolving, right?). But for families or solo travelers wanting space and that free parking perk, it’s a winner. I left thinking, yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat – especially for those longer trips where you want to settle in and actually explore the city like a local, not just pass through.

Reviews of Waterfront apt Mel’s Collins Street FREE PARKING#CWG
Pleasant stay in convenient location – Linda from United States – 30 June 2025 (9/10)
Location near tram stop. Bright, full wall windows. View of Yarra River. First floor location. Very good shower. Decent bed. Basic supplies. Close to severe cages and restaurants and a grocery store.we didn't use the pool or gym–I was there for a conference–but they looked lovely.
What could be improved: Minor issues: stuck sink stopper in bathroom, one bedside lamp didn't work, the Nespresso coffee maker leaks water and if you don't empty it after use, you have a puddle to mop up. To be fair, someone came and removed the stopper, and I didn't report the other two issues.Superb – Grant from New Zealand – 19 March 2025 (9/10)
Great spot, the city on your door step.
What could be improved: Adding a dryer would make it almost unbeatable.Great location with quick free tram ride to the city and free parking. – Wade from Australia – 21 January 2025 (8/10)
Nice quiet location even though we were very close to the city. Outlook over the river was nice and the free parking was a winner. Easy free tram ride to city central and access to trams for the Australian Open tennis.
What could be improved: Bed was way to soft for us (we prefer very firm bed but that comes down to personal preference) and windows needed a clean.Just a lovely place with a beautiful view – Donna from Australia – 27 March 2025 (8/10)
the instructions provided were very clear
What could be improved: Trying to return the key into the lock box failedLovely apartment, nice and clean, lovely view, great location. – Alison from Australia – 27 March 2024 (8/10)
Location was excellent, overlooking the Yarra.
What could be improved: The bed was a little soft, the sheet kept becoming untucked and the quilt kept escaping from its cover. Perhaps consider using a fitted sheet and a quilt cover which fastened at the end instead of being open. Also a couple of extra pillows would be great so each person had two instead of one. I know these are small things, but it would really help guests get a better sleep. It was fantastic and highly recommend – Suhas from India – 23 January 2025 (10/10)
The facilities location and cleanliness
Highly recommended accommodation. – Aline from Australia – 5 November 2024 (10/10)
Transportation is accessible via tram to cbd. Walking distance to the coffee shop, convenience shop and to Marvel stadium.
What could be improved: Late check-out can only be extended up to 11.30am. It would be inconvenient if the flight is in the late afternoon.Disappointing – Stuart from Australia – 22 June 2025 (4/10)
What could be improved: Charged $14 foreign transaction fee from my bank as the payment was charged from the Netherlands
Superb – Minka from Australia – 3 July 2025 (9/10)
Superb – Tishan from Australia – 7 July 2025 (9/10)
