Hotel Description
You know, when I first rolled up to the West Side Contemporary Pad on Little Lonsdale Street – that’s right in the heart of Melbourne’s west end, just a stone’s throw from the bustle of Spencer Street and those trams rattling by every few minutes – I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s tucked into this shopping precinct vibe, sort of wedged between all the high-street stores and those hidden laneway cafes that locals swear by. Honestly, arriving in the late afternoon after dodging the peak-hour chaos around Southern Cross Station (pro tip: if you’re coming by train, it’s a quick 10-minute walk, but watch out for the cyclists zipping through), the place felt like a sleek little oasis. The building’s got that modern edge – think clean lines, big windows letting in the city light, and a lobby that’s more like a trendy co-working space than your typical hotel front desk. I mean, check-in was a breeze with the app they use; no fussing around with keys, just a code on your phone. But yeah, if you’re lugging heavy bags up from the street, note that there’s no dedicated parking – street spots are gold dust here, especially during the day when office workers snag them all. I ended up using one of those multi-level car parks on Lonsdale, which wasn’t too bad, about a five-minute stroll back.
What really sold me on this spot, though, was how it nails that contemporary pad feel without trying too hard. The rooms – well, suites, really – are kitted out like a stylish apartment you’d actually want to live in, with those plush, sink-right-in beds and kitchens that have actual decent appliances (I whipped up a quick brekkie one morning using the market-fresh stuff from Queen Victoria Market, which is literally a 15-minute walk north on Elizabeth Street). You get that fresh linen smell mixed with the faint waft of coffee from the machine in the corner, and the views? Depending on your floor, you’re peering out over the rooftops toward Flagstaff Gardens – great for a morning jog if you’re into that, especially in spring when the jacarandas are blooming and the air’s all crisp and eucalyptus-scented. It’s not perfect, mind you; the street noise can creep in during rush hour, that low hum of trams and chatter from the shopping crowds below, but it dies down by evening, and the double-glazed windows help a ton. Oh, and the Wi-Fi’s solid – streamed a footy game without a hitch, which is saying something in a city where signals can be spotty in older buildings. I wandered out one night to grab dumplings at this hole-in-the-wall joint on Little Bourke, just around the corner, and it hit me how central this place is for exploring – you’re smack in the middle of the CBD’s west side, close enough to Docklands for a sunset stroll but far from the tourist crush of Federation Square.
All in all, if you’re after a 4-star stay that feels more like crashing at a mate’s fancy flat than a sterile hotel, this one’s a winner – that 8.5 rating doesn’t lie. It’s ideal for shoppers hitting up the Emporium or Melbourne Central (both under 10 minutes away on foot), or even business folks needing quick access to the courts district nearby. Sure, it might not have a pool or spa – that’s the trade-off for the urban pad vibe – but for the price, especially off-season when Melbourne’s winters keep the crowds thin, it’s got that authentic city immersion without breaking the bank. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe time it for the food festival season when the precinct really comes alive.

Brilliant location and the host was excellent
Good – Anna from Australia – 4 October 2024 (7/10)
Its a nice view and quite comfortable for a short stay. Location is ok.
What could be improved: It probably needs a little upgrade in furnishings and a paint job. Touch up make it look a bit fresher.
We had issues with tv but not a big deal.
