Opulent Level 25 Condo with Breathtaking Views
I remember pulling up to 1 Freshwater Place in Southbank – you know, that sleek high-rise right on the edge of the Yarra River – and thinking, wow, this is going to be something special.
I remember pulling up to 1 Freshwater Place in Southbank – you know, that sleek high-rise right on the edge of the Yarra River – and thinking, wow, this is going to be something special. It’s not your typical hotel; it’s more like a swanky condo on the 25th floor, all opulent and lived-in, with these massive floor-to-ceiling windows that just suck you in the moment you walk through the door. Honestly, my first evening there, I kicked off my shoes, poured a glass of local Pinot from the well-stocked kitchen (they’ve got everything from a Nespresso machine to actual cookware, which is a godsend if you’re tired of eating out every night), and just stood on the balcony watching the city lights flicker on. Melbourne’s skyline from up there? Breathtaking doesn’t even cover it – you get the twinkling Eureka Tower right across the way, the river curving below like a dark ribbon, and if you’re lucky, a tram rattling past on Queensbridge Street. I mean, Southbank’s always buzzing, especially in summer when the promenade fills up with joggers and families heading to the NGV or Crown Casino, but up on level 25, it’s like your own private perch above the chaos. Oh, and parking – well, they have secure spots in the basement, but if you’re driving in from the airport, factor in that peak-hour snarl on CityLink; I learned that the hard way after a delayed flight.
What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels authentically Melbourne – sort of urban chic without trying too hard. The condo itself is decked out in that modern Aussie style: plush king bed with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of eucalyptus (or maybe that’s just the nearby Botanic Gardens wafting in), a spacious living area with a comfy sectional where I binge-watched some shows after a day exploring, and a bathroom that’s basically a spa – think rain shower and heated floors, perfect for those chilly winter mornings when the fog rolls in off the bay. It’s rated 8.8 for a reason, you know? But let’s be real, it’s not flawless; the building’s elevators can get a bit crowded around check-in time, especially if there’s a conference at the nearby convention center, and you might hear the occasional hum of traffic from below if you’re a light sleeper. Still, noise levels are surprisingly tame for the location – quieter than staying right in the CBD, actually – and the on-site gym and pool (shared with residents, mind you) are a nice touch for burning off those flat whites from the cafes on South Wharf. I wandered down there one morning, grabbed a brekkie roll from a spot called The Boatbuilders Yard, and it was just a five-minute stroll back.
All in all, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want that four-star vibe without the stuffy hotel chains, this opulent Level 25 condo is a winner – especially for couples or small groups who appreciate the self-catering setup and those insane views. It’s the kind of place that makes you linger a bit longer, maybe skip the tourist traps and just soak in the city from above. I’d go back in a heartbeat, particularly in spring when the jacarandas are blooming along the river paths. Just book ahead for busy seasons like the Grand Prix weekend; it fills up fast.

The view of the city was stunning, the cleanliness was impeccable, and the complementary snacks were a thoughtful touch. The appliances and facilities were top-notch, making our stay of close to 4 weeks very comfortable. The location was ideal, with easy access to public transport and nearby attractions. Ricki was a wonderful host and he reached out to check if everything was okay, which made us feel truly cared for and welcomed. Overall, it was a perfect stay with everything exceeding our expectations.
Great location - across the road from the casino, 10 minute walk to the heart of the city, and to the railway station, on top of restaurants, IGA but very quiet. Very clean and well appointed unit. Excellent views down to the bay.
