Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to the hotel on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda – you know, that buzzy stretch right near the beach where the trams rattle by every few minutes and the air smells like salty sea spray mixed with coffee from those little cafes. It’s called Spectacular Views over Albert Park, and honestly, the name doesn’t oversell it one bit. I checked in around dusk after a long flight into Melbourne, and the front desk folks were super chill – no fuss, just a quick chat about the best spots for a flat white nearby, like down on Acland Street where the cake shops are legendary. The lobby’s got this modern vibe, all sleek lines and big windows that frame the park across the way, but it’s not stuffy at all; there’s even a little bar area where locals pop in for a drink, which makes it feel more like a neighborhood hangout than some sterile chain.

What really hooked me was the room – I mean, I splurged on one with a balcony overlooking Albert Park Lake, and waking up to that view? Priceless. You can see the jogging paths winding around the water, and if you’re there during F1 season in March, forget about it – the whole area buzzes with energy, though fair warning, the noise from the track can seep in if your windows are open (earplugs helped me). The bed was ridiculously comfy, like sinking into a cloud after a day exploring, and the bathroom had those rain shower heads that make you linger way too long. Breakfast downstairs is solid – fresh avo on toast, decent coffee, nothing groundbreaking but way better than the usual hotel buffet slop. Oh, and parking? It’s a bit of a juggle on Fitzroy Street, especially weekends when St Kilda’s markets are on, so I ended up using their valet service, which was worth the extra few bucks to avoid circling for ages. One tiny gripe: the Wi-Fi dipped out a couple times in the evening, but hey, it gave me an excuse to unplug and wander over to Luna Park for some old-school fun – that rickety rollercoaster is a riot, even if it’s a short stroll away.

All in all, if you’re hitting Melbourne and want a spot that’s got that effortless cool without trying too hard, this place nails it. It’s a solid 4-star setup with a 9.4 rating that feels earned – not over-the-top luxury, but thoughtful touches like fresh eucalyptus in the rooms that smell just like the Aussie bush. Well, sort of; it’s more subtle than that. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-peak when it’s quieter and you can snag a deal. Whether you’re into the beach vibes (St Kilda’s Esplanade is right there for sunset walks), or just need a base near the city – trams zip you to the CBD in 20 minutes – it makes the whole trip feel authentic, you know? Like you’re actually living in Melbourne for a bit, not just passing through. (Word count: 428)

Fantastic historical building with a book about it in the property so you can read about the history of the place was a nice touch. Imen was an extremely helpful host and fast with communication when I needed anything. The views over Albert Park to the city and to the harbour were stunning especially at sunset and sunrise. It was so good having a dedicated parking space in the basement. The neighbourhood is fantastic with trams running along Fitzroy Street right outside (not too noisy) and St Kilda Station across the road with a small supermarket there too. The kitchen and laundry were setup well, the apartment was setup like a home away from home, very clean and extremely comfortable.
